"Lovely old pub, right next to the Minster and steps from the centre. You will hear about this pub if you go on the ghost tour of York, we popped in because of this. Great to see it has masses of character and feels like stepping back in time, we went in when it was really quiet so that added to the historical feeling. I almost booked to stay here, having been inside I wish I had"
"Did not stay overnight but called in for a meal at the restaurant. Had the famous Guy Fawkes in steak pie. The menu said there was a 30 minute wait for the pie but was worth it. I was not disappointed it was huge, hot and very tasty. Atmosphere is quirky due to its style, its even still got gas lights on the walls! Service was great and attentive even though the room was full. This place is always busy so it speaks for itself as being worth a stay."
"Great place to stay. Lovely room, comfy bed and really comfy pillows. We only had 1 towel between the two of us for some reason, but this was quickly rectified. The breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long while and the staff were great. Will definitely be coming back here"
"On a 2 night break with my husband, this old Inn was perfectly situated central in York. Booking in was quick and easy with attentive staff. The room was large and quirky with everything you needed and more. Breakfasts were bookable in advance with a time, with a large choice should cover all appetites and cooked fresh. Tea and biscuits replenished on second day. Bed really comfortable. Yes we definitely will return to do more sight seeing."
"Had a great meal here with friends on my visit. Their indoor courtyard is a great spot to have a casual dinner in the fresh air — but they also have more formal indoor seating, too (as well as just the classic old-school pub section). Fantastic traditional food, but slightly elevated. The steaming-hot steak pot pie fresh out of the oven with chunks of tender, juicy beef is a must. The bangers and mash were also delicious. Would highly recommend both. I imagine their Sunday roast must also be amazing if these 2 dishes were anything to judge by."
