The Doneraile Walk Doneraile Walk, Tramore, County Waterford
About the Business
Welcome to The Doneraile Walk, a must-visit establishment located in Tramore, Ireland. This park and point of interest offers breathtaking views of Tramore Bay, the Sandhills, and Brownstown Head on the opposite side of the bay. On a beautiful day, there's nothing quite like a leisurely stroll along the cliff top, where you'll find plenty of great areas to sit and even enjoy a picnic.
The Doneraile Walk is named after Lord Doneraile, a local landlord who generously donated the land to the Townspeople. As you explore the walk's wide open spaces, you'll come across a monument dedicated to one of the worst shipwrecks in Tramore Bay's history - the tragic loss of the British ship "Sea Horse" in January 1816. Over 360 lives were lost, and this devastating event inspired the erection of the Beacon Towers in 1821, where the Metalman stands watch over the bay. Halfway along the walk, you'll also find the old coast guard cannon, positioned on an outcrop atop the cliff, offering stunning views of the bay.
A notable point of interest along the walk is "The Coastguard Station," which has been transformed into a cultural center. Here, you can explore beautiful gardens, visit the exhibition area, and relax in the cafe while enjoying locally sourced food. It's the perfect spot to take a break and soak in the picturesque views of the bay.
To reach The Doneraile Walk, simply take the R675 from Waterford City in the direction of Tramore. Follow this road through the roundabouts until you reach Church Road. Keep an eye out for the entrance to the Doneraile on the left-hand side of Church Road, near the top of Galway's Hill, where you'll find the Trailhead.

Reviews
"A short walk, but is a great viewing platform of the sea. Gets windy up there so dress appropriately. Also watch out for rain clouds in the distance, because they'll come fast and you might get soaked like we did!"
"Lovely scenic area, but not large enough to merit the walk title. Barely a couple of hundred yards."
"Lovely short walk in any weather, but on a fine day the views are awesome. You could sit up there forever!! Plenty of benches, but unfortunately no picnic tables. Tramore beach and sand dunes on one side and The Metal Man in the distance on the other. Spotless, and well maintained. You can continue walking along the coast in the direction of The Metal Man if you're feeling energetic."
"Lucky me in lockdown I live here, fabulous walkway, fantastic views of Tramore beach, plenty seats to rest, and coffee, tea and cake from Coastguard café. View of Pier."
"This is a fairly easy and simple walk. The start if the walk is just steps from the church in Tramore. It is well paved and organized. Also this trail gives great views on the sandy stretch of beach in Tramore. Family friendly walk, you can easily bring a pram there."
