Woodstock Gardens & Arboretum , Inistioge, County Kilkenny
About the Business
Welcome to Woodstock Gardens & Arboretum, located in the charming County Kilkenny, just outside the picturesque village of Inistioge. Situated in the stunning Nore Valley, our establishment offers a wide range of attractions, making it a must-visit tourist attraction and a perfect day trip destination.
Originally developed during the Victorian Period, Woodstock Gardens showcases the vision and expertise of Lady Louisa Tighe and head gardeners Pierce Butler and Charles McDonald. We are dedicated to restoring the gardens to their former glory, specifically focusing on the period between 1840 and 1890. This commitment ensures that visitors can experience the authentic beauty of the era, with carefully selected plants and materials that were typical during that time.
Our gardens boast a delightful blend of formal and informal designs, featuring an arboretum, walled garden, terraced garden, yew walk, and rose garden. The Monkey Puzzle Avenue and Noble Fir Avenue are two magnificent avenues that captivate visitors with their beauty. Additionally, the rustic summer house, constructed using materials from the gardens, and the fountain, a replacement for the original sold in the 1930s, serve as fascinating points of interest.
The arboretum showcases a stunning collection of fine specimen trees, predominantly from Asia and South America. Some of these trees have earned recognition as champion trees due to their impressive size. Adjacent to the arboretum, you will find the walled garden, featuring fruit trees, a vegetable garden, and a breathtaking herbaceous border. Just outside the walled garden, our enchanting cast iron conservatory houses our tea rooms, providing a unique and delightful dining experience. Take a break and indulge in a cup of tea or coffee, accompanied by delectable homemade cakes and pastries, all while enjoying the scenic views of the landscaped garden. Our tea rooms are open seven days a week during the summer season, from 11am to 5pm.
A visit to Woodstock Gardens & Arboretum guarantees an unforgettable experience. Immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of our meticulously restored gardens, explore the diverse plant life, and relax in the charming tea rooms. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, Woodstock Gardens & Arboretum is the perfect destination for you.

Reviews
"Wow, what a surprise to find this when doing a short walk from Inistioge. We were there in end August and while we did not see much blooming and flowers, this was still impressive. Definitely recommend to come here and if you are able to: do the walk from the center of Inistioge instead of using a car. Saves you β¬5 for car park as well, but the walk itself also has magnificent views."
"Lovely gardens being renovated with a very small staff of volunteers. The special points of the garden are the monkey puzzle avenue which I've never seen before. There is a rose garden and a lovely lavendar avenue. The tea room is a must visit with home made cakes and some of the best scones I've ever had. Reasonable prices too. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a buggy driven round the grounds by Woodstock Lenny who will transport anyone to the cafe. This was so useful to us as I cannot walk too far. And his little Jack Russell is a sweet little companion. Although the gardens are still being developed you can see the hard work that's been put in by everyone in the recently weeded borders and the clipped hedges. I love this garden because of the care and the people running it. A bargain at 5 euros for parking."
"A beautiful village and Woodstock gardens are amazing for walking around and enjoying all that the Irish country side has to offer. Fresh air, great scenery, what more could you ask for?"
"Beautiful and well maintained gardens. Some HUGE redwoods and other exotic species. We went in late October and the garden was quiet and relaxing. A good half a day out."
"Very nice place to spend the day. It took us almost 2 hours to visit it. It can be done even quicker if you don't have enough time. I also recommend if you go there, to visit the park from center as well. Definitely worth it."
