Reviews
"Great place for a short break, a Guinness and food. The owner welcomed us with "I'm doing the best fish 'n chips" ... sounds pretentious, but heck, he's right...Great food, big portion (almost did not finish it) and really nice people running the place."
"tl;dr Fish and chip shop attached to a classic pub. Not to be missed. This place needed an updated review because the ones here are a bit out of date. O’Donohues is a pub with a fish and chip shop attached. Don’t let their small menu, Fish and Chips, Burger and Chips and Chicken Burger fool you though. This was one of the finest fish and chips I have had during my trip to Ireland. The atmosphere is spartan but inviting, the perfect balance to cleanse your palate if you have spent all week inside more tourist aligned pubs. Publicans at the bar are pleasant and welcoming and the fish and chips is crispy on the outside, flaky and moist on the inside. The serving of chips is ample and that perfect balance between crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The tartar sauce is heavy on the mustard, but it gives a nice kick compared to others. The side of mushy marrowfat peas is a savory accompaniment to cut the edge off the fried fish. If you use old pictures to pick this pub and you are expecting a full menu, you may be disappointed. But give the fish and chip shop and pub a shot. It will pleasantly surprise you while driving up and down the Atlantic Ocean bounded roads around Western County Claire."
"Great pint of Guinness and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend dropping in some evening and sitting outside to watch the sunset with a creamy pint"
"Most friendly pub in Ireland. The 5th generation pub is now run by Patrick, the nicest guy you'll ever meet. All the staff are friendly as are the locals. The food is exceptional. Best fish and chips I've ever had. Thanks Patrick,. Allan & Sara"
"We’ve eaten here two days in a row—and today we passed by all the pubs in Doolin to return. This place aces every checkbox: the food is delicious, the staff is friendly, attentive, and engaging, and the atmosphere will drag you in and not let go. The live traditional music on weekends is an added bonus. As for food, the fish and chips is above average, and the beef burger is amazing. The Lentil pie is good (not my favorite), but the salads are very tasty, and there’s a beet root and quinoa side that I would pay extra for. (Don’t knock it until you try it). At any given time you’ll see a mix of local people and transient tourists, and all of them look happy to be there—for many good reasons!"
