"based on my experience I would not stay there again, I had room number 5 which faces the main street, the windows were rubbish they did not stop any of the noise or any of the draughts. I didn't get any sleep that night even after taking a sleeping tablet the noise from the traffic was too much...I was also promised a double bed (two singles put together to make a double) but got two singles , after sleeping with my wife for over 47 years I did not want to sleep apart ....Jerry the owner did say they would put it together but it did not materialise. I know I booked a twin room but I did call before explaining to Jerry and he said he will sort it..the room was very tired no decoration i.e pictures on the walls. but there was mould and damp in the shower ...Breakfast was ok nothing special. I know it is the lower end of the market price but I wouldn't stay there again.. if I hadn't paid upfront I would have walked out and not paid.."
"definitely doesn't look like the pictures there is no canal rooms are what you pay for if uts to get your head down for the night it's okay other than that the TV didn't work toilet roll dirty shower smelt when on and there was no spoons to stir the coffee definitely need updated pictures it's a standard pub with a hotel... the younger lady wad very friendly service was very good ....very polite lady"
"It would be hard for me to give the royal George more than 3 stars for our one night stay as we feel that to get a real feel for a place longer is required. This would have been a higher rating as most of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and warm with all the basic facilities. The bar was ok if you want keg beers rather than the cask ales we prefer, one dropped star for us there. The second dropped star is for the location, nothing the proprietors can do about that. What I will say is that if this pub/hotel was in a seaside resort it would be quite difficult to get a room here, especially for the price which was low. The plus points are that they have secure parking, though space is limited, and the majority of the royal George is very disabled friendly. Spread over 4 levels, 2 for the pub the others for accommodation, a lift is available for the bottom 3 and ramp access instead of steps. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on the doorstep of st. Andrews (Birmingham city's home ground, the view from the room we stayed in) that's low cost and does a decent breakfast then you should take a look at the George."
"Stopped here with my daughter last week, read the bad reviews after i'd booked and was a little concerned but I needn't have been. It was clean warm and staff were very friendly, we will stop here again next time."
"Rooms are clean and staff friendly. Bar downstairs is clean, barmaids very friendly. Free parking in small parking lot onsite. But they do lock down parking lot if they have a game, which the stadium is next door to this, and bar fills up quickly I experienced this back on my stay in Aug. Other than that I would def stay here again price is great compared to other big hotels"
