"Booked this place 2 months in advance we booked a double and single bedded hotel room and we rang to check in a hour earlier to be told that they were fully booked up with ukranian refugees and that we would be staying in a hostel next door when we had booked a 3 star hotel room and paid for it. He didn’t even give us notice that the rooms were taken up by Ukrainians even tho we booked it two months in advance. When we arrived into the hostel the place stunk there was about 12 beds and every mattress was filthy and all the towels were stained we had no fresh towels all used ones. There was piles of dust under the beds and the walls were covered in marks. Wouldn’t even let my dog stay there. Shameful. Should not be advertising hotel rooms and taking peoples money and giving no refund back. Should be ashamed."
"The family room we booked was a big and nice one. Clean sheets and towels, OK bathroom and hot water. Nothing dirty, we felt very safe and had a good sleep. Location is awesome, and access at night is very convenient. The lady at the desk wasn't particularly friendly but everything went well. I would recommend this place 100%, if you're not expecting a top class 5 stars hotel, of course."
"The location is great, but the hotel itself isn't. There isn't staff available to check in with or drop your bags with, leaving you carting your bags around the city until 4 pm check in. The shower head in my room was literally attached by a string, leaving it flopping around and hard to use. The caulking in the shower was moldy/ mildew and disgusting. Hotel is dated. Water is lukewarm at best. Lots of road noise. No top sheets, just a comforter and no way to control the temperature in the room."
"Stayed at The Metropole as part of a holiday driving around Ireland and had a two-night stay from Thursday to Saturday with my wife and eight year-old son. Common facilities are a bit old – and most of the ground floor / reception area has been sold off to a restaurant so don’t expect a breakfast restaurant or anything like that. Room was as expected; we had a large and clean triple room with bathroom (room 210) and comfortable beds. The electric instant hot water heater for the shower was a bit noisy when in use – but that was the also the only noise we encountered, and I will blame that on the manufacturer Triton.. The street is a main street in Kilkenny – but a single-lane one-way street so not too bad. Some people going out Friday night – but nothing disturbing. Excellent central location. Convenient for the castle and most of the other Kilkenny sights. Staff was friendly and attentive – though not always present in the reception, but that was really not a problem and not different from many other smaller hotels I have stayed at. Heating was a bit erratic – but it was not cold enough to worry terribly about that. Someone mentioned in a review that windows do not open – that was not the case for our room. Nearby parking for the car (15€/24h Oct 2021 – also hourly rates of course)."
"Our stay has been an absolute nightmare tnare and I would urge people to avoid this place. The bedsheets have stains on them and there was a disgusting smell that came from the shower and permeated the entire room. I called reception to complain and asked if something could be done and he said that there was no one to check the room. I asked if we could be moved and he said they were fully booked and apologied but would look to give us a discount. The place itself is extremely run down and the pictures on the website didnt match what we were seeing. The pub no longer exists On the second night the room opposite us had men coming in and out all night screaming, shouting and knocking on doors. I called down to reception twice and on the second time he said that there was nothing he could do and he would be speaking with the manager to get me a full refund. Myself and my mother felt unsafe the whole night and had zero sleep. I certainly wouldn't recommend for couples or people with families."
