"Rooms dated in comparison to the rest of the hotel, however, extremely clean. No choice of pillow firmness, all soft, flat, pillows. Lack of plug sockets near bed, and no fridge. View out of 336 was literally a brick wall... ask for a street facing room at check in. Lobby and communal areas are very modern. Breakfast has a great selection, cooked full English buffet, continental buffet, pastries, pancakes, and choice of teas, coffees and juices. Staff were really attentive, especially Lorraine, absolute asset to the hotel and deserves recognition. Very helpful giving out local information and recommendations."
"We stayed for 3 nights at the end of a 15 day trip in Europe. We had a king room which was a great size, nice and clean. Staff were friendly throughout the hotel. Other than one staff member at the door that asked my husband if he was a guest. My husband popped outside to check the weather and came back in 30 seconds later and was questioned. He had just walked past the same staff member. Breakfast options were very good, a few more gluten free options would have been nice or some lactose free yogurt. Centrally located so was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. One complaint would be the slamming of doors by cleaning staff:. They walk in and out of rooms numerous times while cleaning and just let the door slam behind them. For the price we paid I don't believe we should have been disturbed by the slamming of doors from early morning until late afternoon. The second day of our stay I was unwell and needed to rest but the door slamming made it virtually impossible. I did notice that some cleaning staff would prop doors open which is much better than the constant slamming. We would probably stay again if we knew it wouldn't be so noisy."
"A good hotel in a good location. I was surprised how busy it was. I think they try to be better than what they are. The staff are all very friendly and offer a five star service but the place is a bit dated and needs a bit of work. I booked a king room (got room 209 - not sure if this is a long room??) The room itself was nice but dated. The carpet just inside the door was all wet - not sure if previous guests spilled something or if it’s a leak. The bathroom was nice and the TV channels were excellent. Power sockets were away from the bed which was annoying. I paid for breakfast to be delivered to my room and it came on time, had a huge range of products but it was cold and the pastries were hard - I left the lot. Any staff members I met were very friendly."
"We booked a deluxe Queen Room with a bath and view. When we checked in we were told we had been upgraded to a room in the College Wing. The College Wing is a recently refurbished part of the hotel with much more modern, compact rooms than the traditional older style that you expect from a historic hotel like this one. The room we were given was small (around half the size of the deluxe Queen), with no bath and no view. It was very dingy with little natural light. When I returned to check in to query this I saw a different member of staff who told me the College Wing rooms were standard rooms so it was in fact not an 'upgrade' but more a downgrade. I feel like because we are young and were dressed casually on arrival they tried to palm off their less popular rooms to us. However we were quickly put into a deluxe Queen, which after all, is what we paid for. As well as this bumpy start to our visit there were several awkward encounters with staff that you don't expect of a 4*, being told we couldn't bill to our room in some circumstances when other times it was fine, at check out being told we had paid then when I returned to pick up a receipt being told we had not paid, just unnecessary admin that made the visit much more effort than it should have been. Aside from these points, the final room we were given was very good and the bed was excellent, very comfortable. The breakfast was great with a wide selection of good food and the staff were all incredibly helpful. Overall, would I stay here again? For the cost, and considering the experience, it has to be a no."
"Fabulous hotel. Myself, my mam and my sister stayed here the night of the Garth Brooks concert and we were thoroughly impressed. From the outside, all the way to the rooms the hotel looks absolutely beautiful. The room was lovely, beds were so comfortable and the bathroom was equipped with both a shower and a bath. Everything you would need was available including bathroom essentials, kettle with tea and coffee, hairdryer, mini fridge and large TV. I love that the room had an air conditioning system which you could control yourself to your own liking. There was also an ice machine in the hallway outside our room if needed. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The toddy's restaurant on to the hotel where we had our dinner was great, again great staff and fabulous food. And the breakfast spread the next morning was fantastic. This hotel exceeded our expectations. We had an amazing stay and will definitely stay again. Would highly recommend"
