"Beïng an oversees traveller you hear lots of horror stories about mechanics ripping backpackers off. That is why we decided to have our Toyota Hiace serviced at Toyota themselves. We were assuming that the original toyota service centre would be honest and good. We were completely wrong! We booked our service at Toyota Palmerston more than 2 months upfront. We came for a big service with aswell 4 new tyres. When we booked the service we booked it to hand in the car at 07:30. Pickup would be 12:00. So we did. At the desk the first thing we heard was that we could pick it up at 16:00. Which was not the deal... We waited for almost the whole session in the waiting room. At 11:00 we saw them picking up the car from the carpark. At 13:00 the car ended up on the carpark again so we asked if it was finished. It wasn't. Afterwards we saw that the only thing they had to do at that stage was changing the spare wheel. So we waited untill 16:00 for that single tyre. After the service I found out that they did not change the airfilter, they did not top up our power steering fluid (despite they put on the reciept that they filled up all the fluids...) and they filled up our engine-oil way to much. Is this what you may expect of a accredited dealer and service centre? Aswell we were shocked by the price of the service and tyres. Witch turned out to be almost double the price of any other car mechanic. 3 days after the service our altenator stopped working. We went back to toyota cause this was quite a coincidence. They told us that this is a wearing part so they said it was for our cost. (what we agreed on cause that is right.) Nevertheless we expected them to be a bit more understanding than they were. They were not agreeing on a bit of a discount (the quote was: 1100$ for the alternator and 500$ for 3 hours work). Aswell they told us to make a new appointment, at soonest 4 weeks later. We could not really wait 4 weeks so we found another aftermarket alternator and a place where I could build it in myself. It cost me 1.5 hours. We ended up spending 450$ for the alternator. Is this really how Toyota keeps their customers happy? Well, we will not come back because they were not thinking along or helping a lot. Cheers."
