About the Business
Welcome to Wickham Park, a charming establishment located at Artarmon, White Street, Australia. This park is not just any ordinary park; it is a point of interest and a popular tourist attraction in the area.
Named after Charles Wickham, a skilled gardener and local resident, this park holds a significant historical value. Charles was known as the 'guiding genius' behind the beautiful gardens on the Village Green at Artarmon Railway Station. Initially established by the Artarmon Progress Association in 1928, Charles dedicated his time as a volunteer to transform these gardens into his retirement hobby. Eventually, his expertise was recognized, and he was employed by the Council.
Over the years, Artarmon has experienced a significant increase in population, prompting the Council to acquire three blocks of land on White Street for open space. These acquisitions were made between 1983 and 1990, with the intention of providing residents with a serene and green environment. In 2007, landscape improvements were completed, enhancing the beauty of Wickham Park. And most recently, in 2022, the playground within the park was renewed, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for children and families.
The playground at Wickham Park offers a variety of amenities, including swings, a rocker, a sandpit, and a water pump. It is a perfect spot for children to have fun and let their imaginations run wild. Access to the park can be gained either from White Street or through the pathway from Buller Road, which is part of the 'Artarmon Pathways' system.
At Wickham Park, we also value and respect the traditional owners of the land. Willoughby City Council acknowledges the Gamaragal people as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the park stands. We pay our respects to their Elders, both past and present.
So whether you're a local looking for a peaceful retreat or a tourist eager to explore Artarmon's hidden gems, Wickham Park is a must-visit destination. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty, enjoy the playground amenities, and take a moment to appreciate the rich history and culture that this park represents. Come and experience the tranquility of Wickham Park, where nature and history intertwine.
