Lake Parramatta Swimming Area North Parramatta, New South Wales 2151
About the Business
Welcome to Lake Parramatta Swimming Area, located in the picturesque Lake Parramatta Reserve in North Parramatta, New South Wales. This establishment is a popular point of interest for visitors who enjoy picnics, aquatic activities, and bushwalking in a stunning 73-hectare habitat.
The highlight of Lake Parramatta is its 10.5-hectare lake, which was officially reopened for public swimming and water recreation activities in January 2015. This reopening was a significant milestone for the 'Our Living River' initiative, led by the Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG). Comprising 12 local councils, government agencies, and community groups, the PRCG aims to revitalize currently unusable parts of the river and surrounding creeks.
When visiting Lake Parramatta, you can access the reserve from Lackey Street via Bourke Street in North Parramatta. For your safety, lifeguard supervision is provided during peak swimming periods. We strongly encourage swimmers to stick to the designated swimming area when lifeguards are present during their patrols.
Speaking of safety, it is essential to be cautious when walking on slippery or uneven surfaces around or in the water. We advise checking the conditions before entering the water, taking it slow, and entering feet first or sliding on your bottom. Additionally, be mindful of submerged obstacles like tree branches and rocks.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, please refrain from consuming alcohol before swimming. Alcohol impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the risk of accidents. Shockingly, around 25% of adult drowning deaths involve alcohol, with a significant percentage occurring near rivers, creeks, streams, lakes, dams, and lagoons.
If you're looking to improve your swimming skills or enhance your water safety knowledge, the City of Parramatta Council offers affordable swimming and water safety lessons in Parramatta and Epping. For more information, please contact Epping at 9806 5633 or Parramatta at 9806 5700.
Parking is available at Lake Parramatta Reserve, with 68 onsite car spots. However, if the car park is full, you can find additional parking on surrounding streets, just a short walk away.
For those using public transportation, the Parramatta Interchange is the nearest train station. From there, you can catch bus route 609 from the Parramatta CBD, which stops just 50 meters from the entrance to Lake Parramatta. The bus operates every hour, Monday to Saturday, and three times on Sundays. Alternatively, buses along Windsor Road and Pennant Hills Road have stops approximately 500 meters from the entrance.
As we enjoy the beauty of Lake Parramatta, let us also acknowledge and pay respect to the Dharug people, the traditional custodians of the land of Parramatta. We honor the elders, past and present, of the Dharug nation, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal people visiting this site.
Come and discover the natural wonders of Lake Parramatta Swimming Area, where you can relax, swim, and immerse yourself in the breathtaking surroundings of this remarkable reserve.

Reviews
"Great city getaway with BBQs and walking trails. Paddle style water activities but would not recommend swimming in here. Fairly easy, light to medium walking trail takes you right around the lake in 60-90mins depending on your pace etc Was once a local secret in the past, but since Google, it's become a busy hotspot with limited parking on the weekends."
