"(4.5 stars) For what could be our last addition to this album (as the season feels like it’s coming to an end) we thought we’d check out one of the few remaining Sydney ocean pools that we’ve never visited before. Whale Beach is a gorgeous crescent of golden sand, with typically expensive northern beaches parking ($10 per hour) and a small but beautiful rockpool at its southern end. Another 1930s Depression-era construction to create work for unemployed people, the legacy of their labours lingers in the most delightful way nearly a century later. It’s around 25 metres long and works wonderfully with the natural rock shelf along one edge. Coupled with its soft, sandy bottom it feels quite natural and part of the landscape. Little fishes of various species share the pool with you, a testament to how clean and clear the water is. And the views are stunning all around. There’s outdoor showers and nice change rooms nearby and lots of surrounding rocky headland to explore. We liked this one a lot and would return."
"Very good location for the family picnic"
"Nice like many other rockpools around Sydney"
"Hidden rock pool - good for children - plenty of opportunity to explore the rockshelf. A long remembered moment of Summer of 2021/2022 will be the time when the seas were raging, and the beach was closed yet we five hugged the wall of the pool facing the sea watching a brave, lone, cormorant, diving in the brewing white water to catch a feed. The cormorant was underwater for up to five minutes at a time and it spurned a challenge as to who could be first to see the seabird re-surface. As best we could tell the bird was prying periwinkles from the submerged rocks."
"We visited Whale Beach on a Sunday afternoon, luckily it wasn’t crowded. It is a small beach yet stunning! The sand is like crushed shells, it feels good to walk on it. The water is crystal clear and the waves are huge, best spot for surfing. There’s a nice rock pool but closed, otherwise stated. Really love this hidden gem!"
