Watsons Bay Baths Marine Parade, Watsons Bay, New South Wales 2030
About the Business
Welcome to Watsons Bay Baths, a popular establishment located at Marine Parade in Watsons Bay, Australia. Our fully accessible harbourside tidal enclosure is loved by people of all ages. The baths feature two floating turning board/sunbathing pontoons, a boardwalk, and seating areas with breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour. What sets us apart is that we have Australia's first deep water wheelchair access to a tidal harbour pool, making it inclusive for everyone.
Adjacent to the baths, you'll find the Teagardens, offering shaded outdoor kiosk seating, stunning views of Sydney Harbour, and convenient toilets and change room facilities for bath users. Please note that access to the aquatic wheelchairs stored on-site requires an MLAK key.
If you don't have an MLAK key, don't worry! Watsons Bay Library has one available for people with a disability permit to access dedicated public facilities. Alternatively, you can purchase MLAK keys from the National Support Office of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLAA) or from many MLAA Business Members.
Did you know that the first public swimming hole in the Watsons Bay area was the 'Bogie Hole' at Laing Point? It was created by two local men, Jack Graham and Reg Norton, in 1888 and became a beloved swimming spot. The Council later expanded the pool in 1895 and added a dressing room in 1898. While the bathing sheds are no longer present, the excavated pool is still visible and used during the swimming season.
The succession of pools built in and around Watsons Bay showcases the popularity of harbour pools as recreational facilities for both locals and tourists in the early 20th century. Swimming gained even more popularity as a healthy lifestyle choice and recreational sport, thanks to the modern Olympiad competitions and renowned swimmers like Tony Fenech, Frank Jordan, and Dawn Fraser.
On December 10, 2010, the new Baths were officially opened by Mayor Councillor Isabelle Shapiro. The Council invested over $2 million in renovating this historic harbour pool, making it a significant historical event. The upgrade includes Australia's first all-ability water access ramp, allowing all user groups to enjoy the baths. We also provide two full immersible wheelchairs for public use.
We invite you to come and experience the beauty of Watsons Bay Baths, where history, accessibility, and breathtaking views come together to create an unforgettable swimming experience.

Reviews
"Been swimming there for years. Great place to do 50m laps just be aware of water pollution after storms."
"It's a great location to have a sheltered swim in the Harbour, with a netted area making it safe for all to swim and enjoy the outdoors. It's challenging to find a car park, particularly at weekends, however it is worth persevering, particularly if you have kids."
"So scenic, peaceful and compact beach. I loved the swim at the bay"
"Great spot for a swim. Has Shark net to keep you and the Kids safe. Toilets across the street."
