Wylie's Baths 4B Neptune Street, Coogee, New South Wales 2034
About the Business
Welcome to Wylie's Baths, a unique establishment located in the picturesque Coogee area of Australia. Situated at 4B Neptune Street, this point of interest is a must-visit for locals and tourists alike.
At Wylie's Baths, we pride ourselves on providing a one-of-a-kind experience for our visitors. Our dedicated events committee is constantly working hard to plan exciting winter season events that you can look forward to. Stay tuned for further details on the upcoming festivities!
Before you plan your visit, it's important to note the conditions report for the day. We update our report regularly, with the last update being on 2 September 2023 at 15:24. On the mentioned day, the pool will be closed at 5 PM for everyone, including after-hours access. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
For those who are interested in swimming, it's essential to be aware of the tide timings. On 2 September, the high tide will be at 9:52 AM, followed by the low tide at 3:50 PM. We encourage all swimmers to swim courteously and wait for a clear space to lap without colliding with other swimmers, especially during crowded times.
As an institution built below the high-water mark, Wylie's Baths offers a unique swimming experience. The pool gets flushed twice daily by the high tide, creating varying conditions depending on the swell or wave action. If you prefer calm "still water" for lap swimming and infinity pool vibes, we recommend visiting within the window of 3 hours before and after low tide. However, please note that the window of 'good lap swimming' may diminish on days with larger swells.
Wylie's Baths is not just a pool; it's a dynamic tidal pool environment teeming with marine life. With a natural rock bottom, you might encounter fascinating creatures like octopus, fish, and sea urchins during your swim. It's important to swim within your ability and be mindful of the changing conditions. If you're unsure about the conditions, we encourage you to sit and observe for ten minutes or more, as calm periods between sets can be deceiving. Our staff is always available to answer any questions and provide assistance.
For those seeking a thrill, the high tide offers better wave action, especially if you prefer the whirlpool scene. However, it's crucial to note that the northern wall, closest to Coogee Beach, is the most dangerous and exposed area of the pool. Waves crashing into the pool can cause the water level to rise and rush out towards the north, potentially posing a risk. Please follow all signage and instructions related to pool restrictions and consider your ability and the risks associated with rougher conditions.
If you're interested in hiring Wylie's Baths for a special event, our venue hire section on the website provides all the necessary information. We offer a unique and picturesque setting for your celebrations.
Lastly, we appreciate any donations made to the Wylie's Baths Maintenance Fund. Your tax-deductible contribution helps secure the future of our beloved community pool, ensuring it remains a cherished institution for years to come. Donations can be made through our website.

"This place is very beautiful, especially in the morning it’s so peaceful. It’s a place to be when you want to clear your mind."
"Performed here with my acapella choir on Friday night. Very pretty at sunset"
"Great place to swim and chill at the southern end of Coogee. Cafe good too but can be a bit challenging to find a park."
"(4.5 stars) Wylie’s Baths is so good, they wrote a book about it that you can buy from the kiosk. Despite the Edwardian features of a very British approach to bathing, including the wooden structures housing a popular café, excellent change rooms and more, the pool itself is one of the more natural environments you can find in NSW. In other words, it’s a ‘living pool’ with marine life, a natural rock bottom, octopus, fish, sea urchins, and more. Tread carefully in this relatively shallow pool as you take in the spectacular views: Coogee Beach in one direction and Wedding Cake Island out to sea. Even looking back towards the entrance is pleasurable, as the whole place feels like you are in some retro time warp of an endless summer captured in old paintings or photographs. We hadn’t been here in decades and felt a bit silly about that after finally returning. This is an archetypal Australian pool experience and is highly recommended."
"Beautiful place. Nice views. Big wide and spacious. Staff are nice. I give it 4 stars coz the whole pool is pretty much rock pool with just concrete structure. There could be sharp sea urchins in water so watch out. So the rock pool is perfect for swimmers who need that privacy. You can touch the ground but it's best to avoid walking in the pool coz of the rocks and coral etc. I also give it 4 stars coz of the $5 entrance. I think it should be like $3 or $4 bucks. But yeah id's go back if I want to avoid crowds. Not a place for little kids. Coz they need to have floaty or need to swim without touching ground."
