"Standing right at the foot of Diamond Hill, this quirky hostel is a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the two nights spent here very much. Every room is a story in itself. The owners are very nice. Breakfast was delicious. I would 100% go back. We stayed in the River cottage and woke up to the sound of the river and birds every morning. The cottage was very warm, same as the main building. The showers and toilets were very clean and had warm water at all hours."
"Right beneath the entrance of connemara national park is this beautiful hostel. It's a place of art with lot to discover. I made friends for life here and I really could enjoy myself after a long rainy hike at the fireplace."
"Amazing atmosphere, the local volunteer gave me a quick tour and made me feel welcome. Heated cozy living room filled with books and sofa’s. The shower has warm water, tho it is all very basic, but just as you could expect for this price. It was perfect for me. It is right at the base of Diamond Hill. There is a free to use kitchen and breakfast is included. Be there at exact the exact starting time. The owner is friendly, when you do as the signs say. Read them. Don’t touch the fireplace, shoes off, no drying of tents in the living room. “The living room is for living.” The coffee pot stays where it is, bring your cup then fill it. The mattress wasn’t comfortable and the room was cold. (February) Still, worth 5/5. Come with the right expectations and enjoy, relax and have a good time."
"I usually don’t rate this bad, but as per what I came across I really wish if there was a negative grading that I could give I would do that as well. So my friends and I went to the old monastery hostel (7 of us). We booked 3 days stay in the hostel since we were going during the Christmas time. Our first and second days stay was alright. On our final day we were chilling out in the common area where there’s a fire place as the place was getting cold enough. The fire place ran out of fire so my friend just put a log in it so that it would keep going and also there was a couple in the room who had just arrived. The owner (Stephen) came up and began giving out at my friend. Used abusive language and also came up to him with an intension of hitting him he kept apologising but this man has no shame. He kept on going straight with abusive language and banging things around for straight 10-15 mins. While all this happened the couple who just arrived felt uncomfortable and left. This was the most humiliating experience we had and hope no one comes across this."
"A haunted monastery, located barely fifty yards from the Letterfrack School Graveyard where 78 young children were killed between 1880 and 1920, there are nights when their screams can be heard emanating from under the ground, you can hear their spirits crying out, "Please God help us!" On one of the two nights I booked, a man who had gone completely mad in the room called "The Church" started yelling: "The Queen is awake! The Queen is awake!" and then started speaking in chinese and eventually began singing the Inspector Gadget theme song in Gaelic. An absolutely terrifying journey, I would only recommend this place to tormented souls who are convinced that the sweetness that life offers is not worth all the bitterness that it provides."
