"Had an enjoyable circular walk around the quarry and saw red kites, Llama's and Emu's. The last two were on private land. The oxide in the soil makes it a deep red, not something I have seen before. Great views, even on a dull day. There is no car park available, you need to find a space in Wick."
"Nice walk, signs are not particularly clear and no parking (park on the road or at one of the pubs). Varied scenery although can be muddy in places."
"Just beautiful. Went in autumnal November and the colours of variety of tree - and even the red soil! - and the river and the arty cubes scattered around and the carved old tree stump - stunning and magical. Worth a couple of hours for sure"
"Beautiful nature reserve felt very well maintained and unspoiled a short walk around the 2 weirs and up to the top and across the fields so not for those who want a long treck. I was really looking forward to the peaceful views over the quarry and the lake from the top, but when we got to the top the quarry was being worked (thought it was abandoned). It didn't spoil the view but definitely took a sledgehammer to any notion of peace! Found some mushrooms over the fields aswell so all in all a great day out and would head out again to explore more of the woods"
"Nice country walk about a 4 mile loop through the nature reserve. The first section past the river on the left leads to a waterfall and pool. After this the path gets very demanding and steep to the top where you have the views of the quarry on your right hand side. Follow the path around the quarry keeping the fence on your right. You will follow a short section of road but keep going right until you pick up the gate back across the front of the quarry then follow the path back down to the bottom"
