The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel A472, Usk NP15 1SY

"Although it is just off the A472 at Usk, we were never bothered by traffic noise. The grounds are very pleasant and there is ample parking. We stayed in Room 3, a good-sized room with a four-poster bed. I am used to a super king mattress and it was not noticeably smaller. The room was a little tired decoratively in a few places but very clean and there was ample storage. The ensuite was spacious and fitted with a large bath and good-sized shower cubicle. The bath, washbasin and wc were very new Villeroy & Bosch units – all were kept spotlessly clean during our two night stay by staff we did not chance to meet. Just two things might have been improved: the drawn curtains did permit some light to enter – I prefer a very dark room for sleeping; and the radiator frequently emitted strange gurgles – to the extent that we turned it off completely to avoid disturbance during the night. We dined in the restaurant both evenings after a drink in the comfortable bar. There were not many other guests and we enjoyed very attentive, courteous and efficient service from the wait-staff. The food was excellent: very substantial portions of fish and vegetables – all beautifully cooked. The staff were uniformly excellent: attentive, friendly and very helpful – a real credit to the management. While it was not a cheap room or meal that we chose, we felt our stay represented good value and we certainly hope to be able to return."

"We were there 2 nights for a wedding. We had dinner the evening before, breakfasts and the wedding breakfast and the food and service was outstanding. Our bedroom was lovely and comfortable and we couldn't have asked for anything more. We would definitely book there again. Excellent"

"Fabulous place, stayed the night with other members of family for our 10th Wedding anniversary. Had a celebration meal in the 'library', it was excellent both the service and food. Hotel couldn't have been more helpful from booking, to helping with our arrangements and throughout our stay."

"The hotel is a beautiful building, the host at the door was very welcoming. Our room had the four poster bed and was extremely comfortable...and high of the floor. The hotel is situated only a short walk from some shop's and very friendly pubs . And even though it's close to a road, you can hardly hear a car pass by. Well worth a visit ."

"We arrived on Friday, 1st July and later that evening had a 3 course meal, which was included in the room price. It was absolutely delicious and everyone in our party thought the same. The next day was my son and his fiancée’s wedding. Oh! Wow! From start to finish the whole experience was amazing . The room was decorated beautifully and everything ran smoothly. The wedding breakfast was fabulous . Every single member of staff was just the best. They looked happy in their jobs and it showed. They were friendly and polite, but very efficient . The three young men behind the bar were really good with my 18 year old grandson, who is autistic . They were interacting with him and he really enjoyed it. A credit to their parents . Carol , with whom my son was liaising about the wedding, went above and beyond. Offering advice and suggestions and generally keeping the happy couple’s spirits up over the passed horrendous couple of years. A day worth waiting for."
