Welcome to Lower Hutt Playcentre, a hidden gem nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Glen Iris Grove in central Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Our institution is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where children, known as Tamariki, are encouraged to explore, discover, create, and grow. We firmly believe in the power of child-initiated play, as it allows children to become confident and self-directed learners.

Our morning sessions run from Monday to Friday and are open to children aged 0-6, creating a wonderful opportunity for siblings to attend together and foster empathy, care-taking, and mentoring between different age groups. All of our activities are thoughtfully planned to ensure inclusiveness for children of all ages.

At Lower Hutt Playcentre, parents and caregivers actively participate in the running of our center and sessions. We support our adults on their Playcentre journey as they deepen their knowledge of early childhood education and experience the benefits of being part of a parent co-operative. With a high adult-to-child ratio, we provide a balanced and supportive environment for both group and individual play activities, ensuring quality sessions and learning opportunities for our children.

Each day at Lower Hutt Playcentre is unique, with sessions planned based on the current interests of our children. However, some activities you can expect to find regularly include painting, clay modeling, music and dance, block building, collage, water play, sandpit exploration, physical play, puzzles, storytelling, science and nature exploration, baking, and imaginative play. We also have a dedicated baby zone with heuristic baskets and texture bags.

Lower Hutt Playcentre takes pride in being an allergy-friendly center. We are egg and peanut-free, and due to the special dietary considerations of some children, we kindly request that children bring their own lunchboxes for morning tea. We provide hot drinks and morning tea for the adults in our fully-equipped kitchen.
