Welcome to Moira Gallagher Kindergarten, the oldest kindergarten in Porirua, located in the vibrant and multicultural Cannons Creek. As a longstanding member of the community, we have built strong relationships with our families and neighbors, making us a trusted and beloved institution.

At Moira Gallagher Kindergarten, we pride ourselves on our distinct cultural program that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. Our teaching philosophy is rooted in the principles of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Whakapapa, and Tuakana/Teina, which guide our approach to education. By nurturing children's independence and encouraging critical thinking, we empower them to take charge of their own learning journey.

Our environment reflects and embraces the values and cultures of our diverse community, with a special focus on Maori and Pasifika cultures. We believe that by embracing and honoring different cultures, children flourish and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging.

In addition to our cultural program, we also integrate computer technology into our curriculum. With state-of-the-art Mimio interactive whiteboards and iPads, we enhance our teaching and learning practices. These tools provide children with opportunities to explore their creativity, develop literacy and numeracy skills, engage in music, and foster social interactions. We also utilize Storypark, an online e-portfolio platform, to share children's learning experiences with parents and whanau.

To ensure that children start their day with the right fuel, we provide a nutritious breakfast every morning and offer fruit during morning tea time. We also engage children in baking and cooking activities during sessions, allowing them to develop important life skills while having fun. It's important to note that we are a peanut-free kindergarten, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all our children.

As children near the age of 5, we have a comprehensive transition to school program in place. This includes weekly visits to Windley School's new entrant class, where children can familiarize themselves with the school environment. To further support this transition, we create transition booklets for each child, providing valuable information to their new entrant teacher. We also utilize the Casey the Caterpillar literacy program, which aligns with Windley School's curriculum, to equip children with essential literacy knowledge for starting school.
