"Nick and I visited, blown in out of the wilderness on the Saturday night and out of things to say, having left a flat beer forgotten somewhere else across the road unnamed and catching up on the little we had done since we had last seen each other, a swell of uninterrupted personal anecdotes and looking for the TV. Had that evening's rocky tide not taken us safely through the Hobson's front doors I fear that might have been it, for us, a Saturday lost in endless opaque darkness and Nick, at sea, rocking around on his hands under him and looking for an opportunity to slip off a shoe, to slip off and hold the big toe I knew had been bothering him and then to have me not hear or not care or not think to bring it up again but to instead hold fat on the silence between us and hope it rendered us home by 10pm. Instead there was a band on at Hobson's and we had a great time cheers"

"Revisited to have a lamb roast with cold shandy by the fireside on a chilly winter day. Staff were warm and friendly and meal was lovely. My wife had the warm chicken salad. Followed by 2 hot chocolate. Most relaxing. We shall be back again."
