Reviews
"With this price range the food is good (the portions are huge), the service is good and the environment is ok."
"Yong Feng is an Achilles in the Chinese cuisine scene. Illuminated by a fluorescent sign, its fresh and diverse seafood is showcased against the glass as you enter inside to the unadorned walls, porcelain and round tables fitted with Lazy Susans. Just by sight alone, the restaurant is authentic in more ways than one. They specifically cater to a Chinese crowd with a Chinese-only menu so it will be difficult for non-Chinese patrons to construct their order. But with such a wide range of dishes, classics such as beef chow fun (干炒牛河) and Yangzhou fried rice (扬州炒饭) are guaranteed to be available. No matter your ethnicity, you will get great, cheap prices followed up with great, sizeable plates of food that can produce leftovers to last you days. For Sunday lunch, we ordered a char kway teow (炒贵刁), beef chow fun (牛肉炒河) with the prawn and Chinese kale fried rice (生虾蘭粒炒饭) being the last plate to come to the table. The fried rice possesses a tantalising fish sauce taste and wok hei with a slight, crispy char on the grains of rice. But the ingredients were sparse with bits of egg, tiny broccoli stems substituting for kale and the majority of scallions lifting the aroma of the elegant fried rice. So I was heaving mouthfuls of rice with no change to the savoury flavour profile. The beef chow fun were more enticing as the slippery noodles were coated in a thick, starchy yet satisfying gravy. Paired with nutritious bok choy, snow peas and succulent slices of beef for additional texture and you've got yourself a tasty bite. The char kway teow was unexpectedly extraordinary, a mountain of rice noodles and miscellaneous vegetables and meats stir-fried together united by the right amount of curry spice. Never have I encountered capsicum, carrots and spam in char kway teow. In fact, this is it's own dish in itself, completely brand new in recipe and deliciousness and I praise it for that. What could their Achilles' heel possibly be? The service. A long time ago, we used to frequent their restaurant because of the generous portions, cheap price and proximity. But each time, we were always met with aloof and unresponsive servers who couldn't care less about our needs. This was because we are a family of three, a small group not as profitable as their usual tables of five or more. Their specialty is seafood and the more customers at the table, the more likely they'll buy a crab or lobster alongside other foodstuffs. Now there's nothing wrong with optimising your money-making but ensure that you don't discriminate against customers who just want a simple dinner made up of less extravagant dishes. Throughout our time there, we felt that the service we received was lacking and unwelcoming, even sometimes compelled to hurry with our dinner to make way for bigger groups. Thus, we stopped going and our Sunday lunch marks our awaited return to Yong Feng. Not the most courteous place but its heroism lies within the fulfilling and delectable food, a promising leader for Chinese cuisine in Riverwood."
"Neighbourhood Chinese seafood restaurant. No need to go to Beverly Hills - more reasonably priced and less crowded here. I don't recommend the free range chicken (走地鸡) though - it tastes like salt baked chicken or something, whereas proper free range chicken shouldn't have any spices as it's about celebrating the chicken's natural flavour."
"The lobster, chicken and scallop dish was amazing and so delicious. Mixed vegetables was a bit of a miss as they just threw together the most bizarre combination of vegetables and didn’t put much thought behind it."
