"In 1976 at the age of 17 I was ordered by a court to reside at St Leonard's hostel for a period of one year. At the time it was for boy's/young men who had committed petty crimes but were deemed still able to be saved from a life of crime. Although there were strict rules surrounding behaviour we were allowed into the community to work and play. The year at this place saved me, yes saved me. It made me grow up and realise that life could be great. I turned my back on the reckless selfish life I once thought was cool and exciting. Now at the age of sixty my life so far has been exciting, surprising, hard, satisfying, successful and fulfilling. Thank you to the staff ( Bob Keneley, Andy Thomset, Mr & Mrs Smith and house keepers who helped me and others to believe in themselves. Found memories of 1976."
