"My Struggle with OCD A lot of people always associate OCD with cleanliness, contamination and perfection, but my story explores a different side of OCD that many may be surprised to know about. So a little bit about me.. I am a 35 year old male, with a wife and two young children. I consider myself to be very lucky, to have been brought up in a loving and supportive environment. I have always worked very hard throughout my younger life and understood the importance of education and gaining qualifications to help support me pursue a career and financial stability. Now as I enter my mid 30s, I am proud to be able to say I am a homeowner, have a gorgeous family and enjoy nice holidays, creating precious family moments. However, my OCD has definitely created unexpected boundaries that I needed to overcome. As I progressed further throughout my career and gained more responsibility within managerial positions, I found my OCD manifesting itself in a way I had never encountered before and realised that is when I needed support from a team that really understood what I was going through. I guess it is hard to fully comprehend the way in which my brain would approach many situations. Imagine having a set of tasks to complete within a day, now it can be a work day or even a Saturday at home with your family. They can be 5 simple tasks around the house that could easily be completed within an hour, or a long list of complex work based tasks, with high pressure deadlines. Now imagine you spend most of your day running through these lists in your head, one after the after, in the ‘perfect order’, without hesitation, searching for that release of tension within your brain, thus enabling you to focus on one task for 5 minutes. I can only describe it like having an itch that you absolutely have to scratch and without scratching the itch you can’t focus and you have an overwhelming amount of tension and you’re desperately searching for the release. One of the hardest parts of my journey was admitting my struggles and reaching out for help. Especially being a male and admitting I struggled with mental health, this was a very difficult topic to discuss with my family and I found the whole process to be embarrassing and uncomfortable. But OH MY GOD, this is hands down the best decision I have ever made in my life! Within a matter of weeks I was put in touch with India and her team and started my life changing week long intensive course with OCD Excellence. It is important to note at this time that although you cannot ‘cure’ OCD, you absolutely can be given the tools to manage it to a point where once again you can live a happy and enjoyable life. Sure you will have some days that are better than others, but using the tools and techniques that India and her team give you, you are able to overcome the thoughts and feelings that once bombarded you and you can once again live your life to the fullest and tackle the stressful working environments. My saviour without a shadow of a doubt was Mindfulness. I start and end my day with a short 5 minute mindfulness exercise that gives me the confidence to know that I am in full control of my thoughts and that it’s okay to have them. Thoughts will come and thoughts will go, but that is all they are, just thoughts. It is training yourself to simply ‘observe’ them and don’t let them control you. If you are struggling, don’t suffer in silence. Reach out for help from your friends and family. Reach out for help from India and her team and I guarantee you within time, you too will have the tools to help you manage your thoughts and feelings and will once again feel empowered to take on the world!"
"Found this so useful - meeting other people with similar experiences. Learnt so much I didn't know about OCD, even after years of living with someone in the family who suffers. Thoroughly recommend. No pressure to speak if you don't want to. Very comfortable. India and Steve are the most knowledgeable people I have come across, not only with the science but the lived experience and the reality"
"I’ve just completed India’s brilliant, therapist-led, interactive 6-week Zoom OCD skills course for parents whose children have OCD. It’s also for adults who have it too. From start to finish, the course was an absolute revelation: understanding the anxiety of OCD, covering how to deal with it as a family, unhelpful non-OCD collusive behaviour, and the type of communication which is key to aid one’s child. And most helpful for me, lots about boundaries and how best to set and enforce them. Having been immersed in OCD for a long time, via a family member, I thought I knew and understood OCD. This ground-breaking course made me realise I really didn’t. Up until now I’d always been a reluctant joiner of group activities – but India’s course completely changed my mind. It was so valuable listening to the conversation of other parents who were incredibly honest about their struggles to help their child. And, it was so beneficial having an insight into their similar challenges and hearing of the things they do to be supportive and bring about change. One of the things I really liked about participating in this course was the ease of conversation between us all and how India navigated that, sometimes questioning, sometimes quietly rebutting, but always thoughtful. And, crucially, factual. India and her team all have first-hand experience of OCD and that knowledge of the condition, alongside their effective evidence-based work, informs all that they do. No wonder they are rightly considered to be leaders in their field. Thank you, India."
"Iv had all types of OCD since my early teens, iv tried so many things and iv tried so many times, Iv had brief periods of success but it kept coming back! I knew that i needed to try something differant. I had never tried a program that is specifically for OCD such as OCD Excellence, Im glad I did, it was worth every penny! India knew exactly what was happening In my head, within a matter of days I was taking big steps in the direction of recovery and self control! OCD Excellence is different because all of the Therapists have alot of experience with OCD or in fact have OCD themselves, I Knew that I had found the right place and I highly recommend! It took me along time to get to this point, failure after failure but I gave this program my 100% and i got life changing results it may not always be a quick fix, it takes time and effort, if you want change in your life you have to give it your all! I hope this review helps and good luck :)"
"Having suffered with OCD for years India has taught me essential life skills in managing this condition. I have sought help publicly and privately. Without a doubt the quality of service received from OCD Excellence has been outstanding. It’s has changed my life for the better. The Intensive treatment plan with a therapist who has the experience and knowledge was the best course of therapy I could have taken. The therapy is based on scientific research and requires you do to tasks and homework to confront your OCD, which was a turning point for me. I could not thank India enough for giving me my life back, and the experience has now inspired me to hopefully one day be able to help other OCD sufferers."
