"The monument is in a circular square that always has traffic."
"I live in blackfriars Road and St George's circus is on the corner and you don't go in. You can see it from the payment"
"St George's circus is a connecting and exchange circus from Elephant and castle leading to Blackfriars, Waterloo station and London bridge. Very nice E-co environ."
"This was the first purpose-built traffic junction in London, featuring the obelisk in the centre, built in 1771. Originally complete with oil lamps, the obelisk was removed in 1905 and made a return in the late 1990s, a clock tower being located in it's place in the intervening years. Now an historic centrepiece in the intersection of 6 busy main roads."
"The obelisk first erected in 1771 on newly constructed roads as locus and “1 mile” distance marker to especially considered destinations in London. Still a hub where now six busy roads converge though the acclaimed historical buildings that encircled the monument have all succumbed to the passage of time. The current surroundings here effortlessly inconsequential. The obelisk a reminder of this impermanence and mutability."
