"Mmmmmm! Let me think. Lovely venue. Lovely & friendly staff. However! The menu on paper looks absolutely mouthwatering but in my opinion failed to deliver in reality. In fairness we were given a discount once our concerns were aired. Everything ordered was delivered to our table in one go ( there were 8 of us). No one was told "yours will be here shortly" only to arrive after everyone else had finished. It was also cooked well and hot through out. Our olive board starter came initially with no olives! It was promptly rectified, although with the abundant choices of olives available today the olives were just run of the mill small unflavoured black and green ones. The accompanying hummus on the otherhand was very nice. The chicken kebab was a poor portion. I myself had the lamb Henry and found it very bland and lacking any presentation. Mashed potato, lamb and roasted parsnips didn't set the saliva glands into overdrive. All a bit "grey". Drinks were reasonably priced. The merlot was very nice. All in all mixed feelings really. Thought for the prices it should have been better."
"Not a great experience if you just want a leisurely drink late on Sunday afternoon. The main bar that greets you upon entering is completely occupied by the prawn sandwich brigade, impenetrable. You have to go to the partially occupied side bar and wait patiently. I was eventually served, by a hospitable fellow, with a good pint of Landlord."
"My first visit to the sparrowhawk and I liked it. It's a place with character, a good start to me . We ordered drinks then went to our table. Service was excellent I might add, I had steak a starter, goats cheese with red pepper in croquettes cost £6.70 . Main course i had beef and ale pie £14.50 . Both courses were very good, well presented as they say but I'm old school ,value for money and it was . So if your passing through Fence nr Burnley pop in to the sparrowhawk."
"Second visit here but it wasnt as good as our first. The fishcakes were very good but let down by my main of chicken, dauphinois potato and green beans, I love dauphinois but these were extremely dry not creamy at all. There was a mix up over our Grandsons meal as told he got 2 sides with his (small) pizza so he asked for chips and garlic bread having been told any side off main menu then was told garlic bread not included so he chose onion rings as his second sidewhich came as a very large portion so he only managed a couple, when we got the bill they I had charged the onion rings, I queried this and was told by a different server that onion rings wasnt included as a side so I said I refuse to pay for them as wasnt told, they took them off the bill."
