Welcome to the Maurie Kjar Aquatic Centre, located in Kawerau, Plunket Street, New Zealand. Our establishment is a point of interest for both locals and visitors alike.

At our aquatic centre, we offer a variety of pools for you to enjoy. Our main pool is a 30m pool divided by a bulkhead into a 25m pool and a 5m pool. Additionally, we have two smaller pools specifically designed for children. All of our pools are equipped with shade, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable swimming experience.

What sets us apart is that the water in our pools is warmed using geothermal steam. This means that the temperature of our pools varies throughout the year. During the winter season, which typically starts at the end of the first school term and finishes at the end of the third school term, the temperature ranges between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius. This makes it perfect for relaxation, although not recommended for active swimming. In summer, depending on weather conditions, the temperature ranges from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius.

In addition to our pools, we also have a luxurious spa pool measuring 8m x 10m, with a depth of 1.1m. This spa is specifically designed for relaxation, with seats, controllable water jets, and a soothing waterfall that cascades onto users' shoulders, providing maximum relief for aching muscles. We also provide a hoist for the disabled or frail, ensuring everyone can enjoy the water. During winter, the spa temperature ranges from 37 to 40 degrees Celsius, while in summer, the temperature is adjusted as required.

For our younger visitors, we have a Splash Pad and a Jumping Pillow, providing endless fun and entertainment.

Our aquatic centre is surrounded by large recreation and play areas, where families and larger groups can enjoy barbecues and picnics. We have barbecue and picnic tables available for hire, with fees of $11 for the large BBQ and $5.50 for the small one. Please note that availability is subject to bookings.

Private hire of the entire pool complex is also available throughout the year, except on Christmas Day and during public times.
