From September 9th to November 26th, 2023, we are excited to present "Comfort Zone," an exhibition that delves into the captivating world of the kōtuku and their only nesting grounds in Aotearoa New Zealand. This exhibition pushes the boundaries of human understanding and explores the intricate relationships between humans, other species, and the celestial realm. Through a mesmerizing combination of nesting kōtuku footage, images, and animations, artist Songsataya weaves together a narrative that challenges our perceptions and invites us to contemplate our place in the natural world.

Another remarkable exhibition on display from August 5th to November 5th, 2023, is "Amui ‘i Mu'a - Ancient Futures: Dagmar Vaikalafi Dyck and Sopolemalama Filipe Tohi." This exhibition explores the connections between the past, present, and future in Tongan arts. Dyck and Tohi's individual works from the 1990s to the 2020s are showcased, offering a unique glimpse into the rich legacy of late-18th and early-19th Century customary Tongan art practices. This exhibition is part of an ongoing research project that aims to preserve and celebrate Tongan cultural heritage.

At the Hastings City Art Gallery, we strive to create an inclusive and immersive experience for all visitors. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm, Saturday from 10am to 4pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.
