Welcome to BestStart Mahora, located at Frederick Street West in Hastings, New Zealand. Our institution is a point of interest and a school, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for our tamariki (children).

At BestStart Mahora, we celebrate the uniqueness of each child and empower them to flourish and thrive at their own pace. Our learning environment promotes a sense of whanaungatanga (family-like relationships) and encourages our children to work with and alongside each other. Our dedicated kaiako (teachers) embrace a strong sense of belonging and foster respectful relationships that celebrate the cultural diversity of our learning community.

We believe that play and learning should be unhurried, child-directed, engaging, and meaningful. We trust and empower our tamariki to make their own choices regarding their learning and the center environment. Additionally, we promote learning around sustainability and caring for the natural world.

To support each child's learning, we weave whānau (family) aspirations into individualized learning plans. These plans enable our kaiako to provide personalized support for each child. We capture and share every child's learning journey and milestones through one-on-one communication with whānau, journals, and our online learning portfolios on Storypark. These resources serve as a precious record of their learning throughout their time at BestStart Mahora.

We offer a range of part-time and full-day childcare options to suit the needs of our community. Our center is open weekdays from 7.45am to 5.15pm, operating throughout the year except for public holidays.
