Welcome to Otago Boys High School Hostel, located at 25 Melrose Street in Otago, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, our hostel offers a unique and enriching experience for young boys in their educational journey.

Recently, our Year 9 boys had an exciting long weekend away at OBHS Mt Aspiring Lodge, accompanied by our dedicated staff members, Mr Mahutariki, Mr Hall, Mr Rowe, and Mrs Martin. They had a fantastic time exploring the lodge and engaging in various activities.

We are thrilled to announce that our much-awaited hostel charter boat fishing trip has been given the green light and took place on Sunday. This adventure allowed our boys to enjoy the beautiful New Zealandn waters and create unforgettable memories.

For those interested in enrolling for the 2023 academic year, our enrolment process will soon commence, with School House visits starting from Tuesday, 15 March to Wednesday, 23 March. This is a perfect opportunity to see our facilities and meet our experienced staff.

Established in 1871, Otago Boys High School is one of the oldest and most esteemed boarding schools in New Zealand. With approximately 140 boarders enrolled, boarding is a priority for us. Our boarders primarily come from regional Otago, Southland, and South Canterbury, with the addition of international students and a small number of boys from the North Island, creating a diverse and vibrant community within School House.

Our youngest boarders, starting from Year Nine, are members of Hawthorne Boarding House, where they have the opportunity to connect with other boys their age. As they progress through the years, they become part of School House, which consists of three dormitories catering to boarders in Years 10 to 13. Each dormitory has its own unique identity, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.

Led by the Director of Boarding, who is also a teacher in the school, School House benefits from close supervision and strong connections with each boy. Our School House matron, who resides on-site, ensures the boys' medical care and mental wellbeing are well taken care of, acting as a second mother figure. Our dedicated staff members have a deep understanding of the importance of academic studies and provide the necessary support to our boarders.

We prioritize open communication with the families of our boarders, keeping them well-informed about their son's progress. We work closely with parents to ensure a positive and enriching experience for their boys.
