Gordon Carmichael Reserve Bethlehem, Tauranga, Bay of Plenty 3110
About the Business
Welcome to Gordon Carmichael Reserve, a tranquil oasis located in the Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, New Zealand. This establishment is not only a park but also a point of interest and a popular tourist attraction.
Set amidst stunning native plantings, Gordon Carmichael Reserve offers a peaceful haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The reserve is teeming with a diverse range of bird species, creating a harmonious atmosphere that is perfect for leisurely walks or invigorating cycling adventures.
Spanning an impressive 60 hectares, this reserve has been meticulously developed into a sanctuary of native plants and wetlands. It is nestled between the Mayfield subdivision in Bethlehem and the charming suburb of Brookfield. As you explore the reserve, you will discover a well-equipped playground and an outdoor classroom area, which serves as a hub for the innovative Learning Through Discovery programs.
With over two kilometers of scenic walkways, including a captivating 230-meter boardwalk adorned with native flora, Gordon Carmichael Reserve offers exceptional walking and cycling connections between Bethlehem, Brookfield, and Bellevue. To enhance accessibility, we have recently constructed a bridge/boardwalk that connects Eden Crescent, Brookfield, to the extensive network of walkways and cycleways within the reserve.
We are also excited to announce ongoing developments within the reserve. Thanks to funding from the Urban Ridge subdivision, we are currently working on completing the network of walkways and cycleways. Additionally, we are creating a cultural sculpture garden, upgrading the stormwater system, and constructing a retaining wall at the Carmichael Road entrance, opposite Bob Owens Retirement Village. These exciting upgrades are scheduled for completion in March 2023.
To ensure an authentic and culturally enriched experience, we are collaborating with local hapū, Ngāi Tamawaho, Ngāti Hangarau, and nearby schools. They are actively involved in providing cultural interpretation and contributing to various art projects within the reserve.
In our commitment to safety and convenience, we have conducted a road safety audit and consulted with local residents, including nearby retirement villages. As a result, we will be installing a new pedestrian crossing on Carmichael Road, opposite the reserve's entrance, in March-April 2023. This pedestrian crossing aims to enhance accessibility and safety for both pedestrians and cyclists, making it easier for everyone to explore and enjoy the reserve.
Gordon Carmichael Reserve is proudly managed by the Tauranga City Council. For any inquiries or further information, please contact us at Private Bag 12022, Tauranga, 3143, New Zealand. Don't forget to check out our terms of use, privacy statement, and site map for additional details.

"Such a lovely place to wander around. Tracks are wide and well maintained and there are so many birds to watch. I even saw a big fish jumping up in one of the waterways. There is a carpark and public toilets at the main entrance. They also have a playground. After our walk we sat at the lake and fed the birds and a hungry lot of eels. Awesome! Next time I shall take a picnic lunch, then I can get fed as well as the eels."
"Great little park lots of people there. There's a duck pond there too so u can sit or stand on the jetty and feed the ducks. Also a few walking tracks too. One of my go to parks."
