Welcome to BestStart Girven Road, a leading childcare centre located in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. Our establishment has been rated as one of the top childcare centres in the country by the Education Review Office. At BestStart Girven Rd, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and education in a beautiful learning environment.

Our skilled teaching team is passionate about supporting each child to build confidence, curiosity, and kindness - to become heroes. We believe that every child is unique and we nurture them to support their growth and development. Our tamariki (children) practice mindfulness throughout the day to help self-regulate, resolve conflicts, and relate to each other. You will often see them engaged in activities such as yoga and mindfulness practices, promoting respect and care for one another.

Located in the heart of the Arataki community, just a few blocks away from the beach and a short walk to Baywave, our centre offers a convenient location for our tamariki to participate in swimming lessons. We provide an environment where tamariki feel comfortable to explore and make discoveries alongside their peers and kaiako (teachers).

Our small but close-knit team of teachers brings their own unique skills to the table. With regular professional development and learning from one another, we consistently upskill ourselves to provide the best possible care and education to our BestStart Girven Road family.

We have two learning spaces designed to cater to the changing needs of children as they grow and develop. Our pepi (infants) are nurtured in a calm and relaxed environment, where they can reach new milestones through love, respect, dignity, education, and care. Resources and activities are provided to meet their specific needs, interests, and developmental stages.

Tamariki have the opportunity for free play, as well as planned activities that encourage and support their interests and developmental needs. Our large outdoor space features a wonderful sandpit, a majestic Pohutukawa tree where Tui birds sing, and a garden that tamariki help tend and harvest. We also provide many opportunities for dramatic play and physical development.

At BestStart Girven Road, we offer both free play, where tamariki lead their own learning, and opportunities for extended learning moments that we plan to support and extend their interests and developmental needs. We have three main mealtimes where tamariki are invited to sit and share in nutritious kai (food). On Thursdays, we have a special lunch box day for our 4-year-olds to prepare them for school.

In addition to providing high-quality care and education, we actively engage in community events and celebrations. We recently celebrated Pink Shirt Day, where we took a stance against bullying and celebrated the diverse cultures and differences of our centre whanau. We also celebrated Plunket with a week's worth of fun activities and fundraising.

Gardening is a great hands-on experience that offers many fun and interesting learning opportunities for our tamariki. We believe in providing a holistic approach to their education, where they can develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
