Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hornby, a newly-renovated establishment located in the heart of the culturally diverse community of Hornby, Christchurch. At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hornby, we provide a well-resourced and child-centred environment for children aged 2 to 5 years. Our spacious and attractive indoor space offers countless opportunities for children to explore, be curious, and unleash their creativity through play. We prioritize creating a fun-filled atmosphere that fosters independence and a sense of belonging for our children. Additionally, we have a strong language and literacy program that encourages a love for books and storytelling among our tamariki.

Outside, our kindergarten boasts ample room for children to roam and develop their physical skills. Our outdoor area features movable equipment that allows children to set their own challenges. With lush green grass, barked areas, gardens, and specially designed equipment, we prioritize supporting children's physical growth and development. We also have extensive gardens where we teach our children the importance of caring for the environment through activities such as planting, harvesting, and sharing kai. Our tamariki also have access to real resources like saws, hammers, nails, and gardening equipment, allowing them to learn about managing risk and making safe choices.

We take pride in offering a welcoming and supportive environment that embraces our whānau (families). Each day begins with a special time where all tamariki, whānau, and visitors are welcomed, and upcoming events are shared. Many of our whānau choose to stay and participate in this special start to the day, enriching our program by sharing their skills, experiences, languages, and cultures with us. Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hornby has established strong connections within the local community. Our tamariki frequently explore the community, helping them develop a sense of place. We have regular visits from a HIPPY coordinator, who supports early literacy in homes, as well as from the CCC library and Heartland Community Services.

Located near South Hornby Primary School, we also make regular visits to the school with our four-year-old tamariki, supporting a smooth transition to school for both you and your child as they move on from kindergarten.

We recommend initially enrolling for at least two full days, gradually building up to five days at your child's pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
