Welcome to Barr Cottage, located in Huia, within the stunning Waitākere Ranges Regional Park in Auckland, New Zealand. As an establishment, lodging, and point of interest, Barr Cottage offers a unique and nostalgic experience for visitors.

Built by Bill Barr between 1935 and 1940, using materials from the original cottage dating back to the 1880s, this charming historical cottage provides a perfect opportunity to step back in time and recharge. Despite being only 50 minutes away from the city, Barr Cottage is just a few steps away from the water, offering a tranquil and peaceful retreat.

Guests at Barr Cottage have easy access to the breathtaking Huia area and can use it as a base to explore the picturesque Whatipū beach. Whether you prefer to launch a boat from the nearby beach using a 4WD or utilize the boat landing facilities, there are plenty of options for water enthusiasts.

To ensure the preservation of the natural environment, it is important for visitors to clean their footwear and equipment to prevent the transfer of diseases between different areas. Additionally, guests must keep the cottage and its surroundings clean and tidy during their stay and upon departure. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential to clean all utensils, crockery, and surfaces upon arrival and departure.

Barr Cottage offers all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The cottage is equipped with a fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots and pans, cooking utensils, crockery, and cutlery. There is one bathroom with a toilet and a combined bath and shower. Electric column heaters are provided, and guests can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the stack fire place in the living room by bringing their own wood.

Please note that dogs, other animals, and pets are prohibited at all times, and staying in tents or camping in vehicles around the cottage is not allowed. Guests can dispose of their rubbish in the provided bin outside the cottage using the provided rubbish bags.

To make a booking, please visit our website, and keep in mind that bookings can only be made six months in advance for baches. Availability refreshes daily at midnight.
