Nature lovers will be delighted to know that Cocoa Creek offers a range of activities to enjoy. Cast your line and try your luck with fishing, or take a leisurely stroll through the coastal woodland on the park's unsealed roads. Don't forget to bring your binoculars, as Cocoa Creek is also a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts.
It's important to note that estuarine crocodiles inhabit the waterways in this section of the national park. As always, we urge our guests to exercise caution and be croc-wise in croc country.
Access to Cocoa Creek Campground is suitable for four-wheel-drive vehicles only. During wet periods from December to April, the unsealed roads can become boggy, so it's essential to check road conditions before driving, especially near the creek. We have a total of six unnumbered campsites available, with a maximum capacity of eight people per site. Arriving early ensures you get the best spot!
Facilities at Cocoa Creek Campground are minimal, allowing you to truly connect with nature. Campfires are permitted but must be contained in above-ground fire containers, except during fire bans. Please bring your own fire container and clean firewood, and remember to extinguish your campfire with water before leaving. We recommend using a fuel or gas stove for cooking.
For those who require electricity, generators are permitted but must be operated at less than 65dB(A) when measured 7m from the generator. We kindly ask all campers to respect the tranquility of the campground and keep noise levels to a minimum.
Before embarking on your journey to Cocoa Creek Campground, make sure to pack essentials such as drinking water, rubbish bags, a fuel or gas stove, and insect repellent. Mobile phone coverage at the campground is poor, allowing you to truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the serenity of nature.
To reach Cocoa Creek Campground, simply turn off the Bruce Highway onto Cape Cleveland Road. However, please be aware that access to the camping area may be closed at times due to localised flooding, extreme weather conditions, or park management activities. We advise checking for any closures or updates before your visit.
By choosing to stay at Cocoa Creek Campground, you are not only immersing yourself in the beauty of the natural surroundings but also contributing to the important work being done to protect and grow Queensland's protected area system. Reviews
"The spot is really nice, so wild, located just next to the river, in a national park (7 AUD per night per person). There are no amenities you have to be self-sufficient. Crocs spotted, and there are heaps of mosquitoes and sandflies, bugs spray mandatory"
"More a 4wd under awning camp. Muddy banks"
"Interesting, semi 4 wd ,no toilets"
"Great little spot with no amenities. Great for those who love roughing it a bit. Sandflies and mosquito's are plenty so take the spray and coils. Roads could be AWD accessible to the boat ramp, however the 4wd camp site ring roads can be soft and boggy after rains. Creeks contain crocs. The highlights being the rock formations in the hills, and the sunsets. Almost makes the sandflies worth it β"
