About the Business
Welcome to the College of Business and Economics (Undergraduate Studies) at the University of Tasmania, located in the vibrant city of Hobart. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer more than just studying. Our institution provides opportunities for students to connect with new people through a variety of events, sports, volunteering opportunities, and more.
We take pride in our research excellence, which delivers impact for and from Tasmania. Our commitment to forming deep connections extends beyond our campus, as we collaborate with local industry, schools, and everyone who calls our island home.
One of our notable achievements is being ranked #1 on climate action for universities internationally. For two consecutive years, we have been recognized as the world-leader in taking climate action, with the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings rating us number one in climate action globally for 2022 and 2023.
Located in Tasmania's beautiful Blue Lakes, our institution offers a unique learning environment. Beneath the sparkling waters of the Blue Lakes, three old open-cut mine pits targeted for tin mining can be found. This provides a fascinating backdrop for students studying a variety of disciplines.
Our degree programs offer a global perspective on the big issues. Students like Gemma Rushton, who took a 10-year gap before deciding to study a Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness, can explore their passions in one of the world's most incredible environments.
Tasmania is known for turning everyone into an outdoors person. Upadhya Anjalie Balachandra was drawn to our state because of its natural beauty and diverse range of outdoor activities. From surfing to hiking, Tasmania offers something for everyone, regardless of their interests.
As the only university in the state, we have unrivaled industry access and opportunities for our students. Tasmania runs on renewable energy and is a global pioneer in hydroelectricity. Our graduates, like Bunfu Yu who graduated with a Master of Planning and won a national award, benefit from this unique advantage.
At our campuses, we are reimagining education. Our goal is to provide a good education to as many Tasmanians as possible, and to future-proof our ability to do so, we are transforming our University.
Join us for events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston to explore our campuses and get a taste of uni life. Hear about our courses, pathways, and scholarships directly from students and teaching staff. Register now to stay updated on these exciting opportunities.
We also take pride in supporting early-career researchers. Four of our researchers have been awarded a total of $1,773,740.00 in the Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards, funded by the Australian Research Council.
Our commitment to education extends beyond the classroom. Music students recently had the opportunity to take a masterclass with internationally renowned horn player Stefan Dohr from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. This is just one example of the unique experiences our students can have.
Climate change education is a priority for us. We believe it is essential for schools to incorporate environmental education into their curriculum, and we are actively participating in international testing to support this cause.
Our students are exceptional jugglers, like Jay Hennicke, who successfully balanced being a pro freestyle footballer, a childcare worker, and a law student. Jay recently graduated from our Bachelor of Laws program, showcasing the diverse opportunities available at our institution.
We are also proud to support talented musicians like Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick. Sarah will be embarking on a statewide tour, highlighting the work of women composers.
While reducing carbon emissions is crucial, we also recognize the importance of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We are committed to finding innovative solutions to compensate for sectors where decreasing emissions is more challenging.
Join us at the College of Business and Economics (Undergraduate Studies) at the University of Tasmania, and be part of a community that values education, research excellence, and making a positive impact on our world.
