About the Business
Welcome to the Australian DBT Institute, a premier establishment located at 115 Scarborough Street in Southport, Australia. As a leading health institution and point of interest, we are dedicated to providing mental health professionals with the necessary skills and strategies to implement Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in their practice.
With an increasing demand for DBT programs, we have recently launched additional initiatives to meet the needs of our clients. Our 12-month program is specifically designed for mental health professionals who are interested in incorporating a range of DBT strategies into their work.
At the Australian DBT Institute, we offer group supervision for clinicians who wish to specialize in working with clients experiencing emotional dysregulation. This personalized guidance ensures that our clinicians are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to effectively support their clients.
Established in 2004, the Australian DBT Institute is a specialist service of Gold Coast DBT Pty Ltd. We have a strong foundation built on a formal partnership and mentoring with Marsha Linehan's training organization, Behavioral Tech LLC, between 2003 and 2008. Through our comprehensive training programs, we have been able to develop mental health professionals across Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Our range of DBT workshops includes one-day workshops covering foundation, skills, individual therapy, AOD populations, and youth. We also offer four-day retreats in Far North Queensland and Thailand. Additionally, we provide a twelve-month comprehensive training in DBT, which is available both online and in various locations including Melbourne, Gold Coast, and Sydney. Furthermore, we are contracted by individual workplaces to develop their own DBT programs and provide onsite education for their staff.
Australian DBT Institute is proud to offer a variety of services through different business structures. Our Private Psychological Services are provided through Essentia Health Clinics, and we also offer Telehealth Services and Online DBT Groups through DBT Assist. Moreover, we provide professional development opportunities through the Centre for Mental Health Education and CMHE Academy. Our accredited partners employ staff trained in the application of DBT and actively participate in research activities at the Australian DBT Institute.
When it comes to professional development, the Australian DBT Institute is the top choice. We are committed to supporting the continuing professional development (CPD) of mental health professionals each year. Our institute is contracted by various workplaces throughout Australia, and we offer a range of professional development opportunities for mental health professionals seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge.
DBT, developed by Marsha Linehan, was the first psychotherapy shown to be effective in treating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in controlled clinical trials. At the Australian DBT Institute, we are proud to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking therapy.
From mid-September 2022, we will be offering two streams of treatment for individuals, providing even more options for our clients. With our extensive experience supporting placement students, new graduates, and early-career practitioners, we understand the unique challenges faced by mental health professionals. Rest assured, the Australian DBT Institute is here to support you every step of the way.

"All I have wanted to do for years, is DBT. Finally start and while yes it's great, the program was hard to stick with. Everytime I go to group the computers wouldn't work, would wait sometimes 30min before starting- no call or anything just expected to have nothing else to do that day. The person jumps back and forth from category's and information, it was easier to just nod and get out of there. As someone with a damaged and traumatised brain, how can I focus? How can anyone. Every single time I would leave, the other business owner would lock us in so I would have to walk up and around back down stairs. Disgusting. Claustrophobia is a real thing and yes was causing me stress not even being able to leave in peace. I would get flashbacks and start physically panicking. The small skills I gained are more from my own constant research and my amazing therapist who has also left. Please have a fully trained professional teaching the DBT class. This has caused me more long term issues and I have made sure friends go elsewhere."
