The Abbey at Chester's is now under new management, but the historic building still pays homage to its original owner, Sydney Chester, who constructed it in 1890. Our proud Australian managers, who have Belgian ancestry, aim to bring a taste of Belgium to the Swan Valley. We serve a range of Belgium beers, some of which are made from authentic recipes dating back to the 1600s.

The restaurant's name, "The Abbey," is a nod to the brewing traditions of the monks in the old convents of Belgium. Our logo features the iconic statue of "Mannekin Pis," a renowned piece of art that still stands in Brussels today.

On-site, you'll find The Cellar Door, where you can sample and purchase the award-winning wines from Heafod Glen. These wines are also available to complement your meal.

With seating for 120 guests, our casual and comfortable restaurant is staffed by friendly individuals. Our menu offers a variety of simple yet delicious dishes at affordable prices. From hearty steaks to woodfired pizzas, and even Belgian waffles for dessert, we have something for everyone.

One of our featured beers is Pauwel Kwak, an amber ale brewed since the 1980s with an alcohol by volume (abv) of 8.4%. It is named after an 18th-century innkeeper and brewer, Pauwel Kwak. The beer is meticulously filtered before being packaged in bottles and kegs.

Like other Belgian beers, Kwak has its own distinctive glass, held upright in a wooden stand. The design of this glass is attributed to the innkeeper Pauwel Kwak, who supposedly created it in the early 19th century for coachmen stopping at his coaching tavern and brewery named "De Hoorn." However, the beer and the glass were not introduced until the 1980s.
