The name "Maali" comes from the Wardandi word for the black swan, a symbol of grace and beauty in Aboriginal culture. "Up" means "place of," and together, Maalinup represents a place of the black swan. Just as the black swan glides along the Western and Southern coasts of the South West, Maalinup Aboriginal Gallery stands as a testament to the vibrant traditions and artistry of the region.
Conveniently located just 35 minutes from Perth CBD, Maalinup Aboriginal Gallery is a must-see stop on any trip to the Swan Valley. As an Aboriginal-owned and operated enterprise, we take pride in offering cultural activities, talks, performances, and bush tucker experiences that provide insight into the rich heritage of the Aboriginal people.

While you're here, sample some bush tucker, browse through our collection of bush tucker books, and wander around our garden, where you might even spot an emu or two. Our garden is a constant work in progress, and we're always happy to share our growing tips with you.

"We were lucky. Was open )"
"Maybe take down that you're open when you're not or at least put up a sign on the door? we went yesterday and it was shut.. and also the surroundings of the building are rather gross.. we saw a box of rotting food with flies all around... we could see inside and it looked rather nice? very strange and perplexed as to why this place is looking like it is..?"
"I tried to visit on a Friday lunchtime but couldn't get in. The doors were locked although inside there was a woman, working on a computer, who seemed to be gesturing that she was busy. The building and surroundings seem quite run down compared with other attractions in the Swan Valley. As an overseas tourist I am disappointed that Perth doesn't seem to care much about Aboriginal art and culture."
"Dale and her brother have been very friendly. Dale has lots of surprising infos about local edible plants. We really appreciate her for having us to today. I got two bracelets made local.Highly recommend this place for the art gallery and local products."
"We went there on a booked workshop on NAIDOC week. Dale did a fantastic presentation on the Aboriginal food and culture. They even have emus as their pets there. But if you go to see the emu, please watch out the cars sharing the same driveway at the rear block which is separate from the galary. A ute just missed my kid by 1 second."
