Steeped in history, our hotel was originally known as Hotel Bullsbrook and has gained the affectionate nickname "The Red Roof" due to its distinct red roof, a favorite among RAAF personnel and locals. Constructed in the early 1910s, our hotel predates even the nearby RAAF base, making it a true historical gem. In the mid-1930s, architect William G. Bennett undertook renovations to accommodate the growing area and the impending RAAF base across the road. Bennett, known for his work on the Raffles Hotel and the Ocean Beach Hotel, as well as the iconic Regal Theatre in Subiaco, left his mark on our beloved establishment.

Today, Chequers Hotel stands as the sole remaining inn of the five that once lined the Great Northern Highway. Over the past century, we have evolved into a vibrant destination that offers a bar, restaurant, comfortable lodging, and a point of interest for history enthusiasts. Our commitment to preserving the past is evident in our collection of historic photos, showcasing the hotel's transformation before and after the renovations in the 1930s. One particularly intriguing photo captures a crowd outside the hotel, joyously welcoming soldiers home from World War I. Another remarkable discovery during our recent renovations was a framed mosaic linoleum aircraft, found in an unexpected storage area between our bars. While the medallion remains a mystery, its well-preserved condition adds to the allure of Chequers Hotel.
