About the Business
Welcome to Lucy Smith Psychologist, a trusted establishment located in New Farm, James Street, Australia. As a registered psychologist with extensive experience, I am dedicated to providing exceptional mental health care to individuals in the Brisbane area.
At Lucy Smith Psychologist, I specialize in addressing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, suicidality, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, my primary focus over the past 10 years has been on complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and eating disorders. I have worked with eating disorders in various settings, both in individual and group therapy contexts, including private practices and hospital settings, as well as inpatient and outpatient treatment.
Recovery from an eating disorder involves more than just addressing your relationship with food and your body. I firmly believe that in order to achieve complete recovery, it is essential to delve into the underlying issues that contribute to the development and maintenance of these disorders. Eating disorders are not simply about food, weight, and shape; they are often rooted in deep-seated pain and discomfort. By addressing these underlying issues, we can work towards a positive relationship with food and body, while also cultivating a meaningful life filled with joy, pleasure, flexibility, freedom, and spontaneity.
In my practice, I draw primarily from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Additionally, I integrate approaches from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, CBT-E (Enhanced CBT for eating disorders), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness. This eclectic approach allows me to tailor treatment to the unique needs and preferences of each individual.
No referral is needed to schedule an appointment at Lucy Smith Psychologist. However, obtaining a referral from a psychiatrist or a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from a GP can provide access to rebates of $88.25 for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have multiple health specialists involved in your care, a Team Care Arrangement (TCA) written by your GP can grant additional rebates of $55.20 for 5 sessions per calendar year. Private health insurance may also offer further rebates, depending on your coverage level.
For individuals with an eating disorder, you may be eligible for an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP), which provides up to 40 rebates of $87.45. If you believe you may be eligible, I encourage you to discuss the possibility of going on an EDP with your general practitioner or psychiatrist.

Reviews
"After seeing other psychologists that I couldn't build a good repore with, I was reulctant to changing mine and having to start all over again. Lucy was recommended to me by my Psychiatrist I'm so happy that I did, Lucy is an excellent psychiatrist. I was a bit apprehensive on my first appointment, this was quickly dispelled by her friendly personality. She is always punctual with her appointments and very knowledgeable in treating her patients. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a psychologist."
