About the Business
Welcome to The Psych Edit, a psychology practice located in Kenmore, Australia. We are an establishment dedicated to supporting your mental well-being and providing holistic evidenced-based approaches to psychological issues. Led by Dr Elizabeth Blackwood, a highly experienced psychologist with 13 years of clinical practice, our team aims to integrate gold standard psychological treatments for mental illnesses with an understanding of all the factors that may contribute to your mental health.
At The Psych Edit, we believe in seeing the person behind the diagnosis. During your psychology sessions, our practitioners will thoroughly examine all aspects of your life and well-being. This includes factors that you may not consciously recognize, such as your early experiences, interpersonal connections, emotional bonds, professional environment, dietary choices, sleep patterns, daily rituals, and overall way of life. By taking a comprehensive approach, we are able to tailor our treatment plans to address your mental health issues in the context of your entire being, not just your head space.
We specialize in treating a range of mental health disorders, with a focus on anxiety, depression, relational issues, and trauma. Our services extend to adults, teenagers, families, and couples. In addition to traditional therapy methods, we also employ advanced, research-supported techniques such as Neurofeedback and Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation. These methods aim to balance brainwave activity, reduce anxiety, and enhance serotonin production. We even offer handheld Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation Systems for purchase, allowing you to continue your treatment at home between sessions.
Our goal is to help you gain insight and understanding into your mental health, provide a safe and informed space for healing, and equip you with the tools to move forward and achieve your goals. We use effective evidence-based treatment methods that are uniquely tailored to you, your preferences, and your situation. As you begin to feel better, we are committed to providing ongoing care and addressing any issues that may arise.
Confidentiality is of utmost importance to us, ensuring that your sessions remain completely private unless harm to yourself or others is revealed. We maintain a respectful and safe environment for all clients and visitors, expecting the same level of respect in return. Any abusive or disrespectful behavior towards our practitioners and staff will not be tolerated.
In addition to our therapy services, we offer health news and announcements to keep you informed about upcoming events, new approaches to mental illnesses, and various courses. Our topics cover a wide range, including nutrition for mental health, positive psychology, effective communication strategies, life coaching, meditation, and more. We also organize forest bathing sessions and guided mindfulness retreats with your psychologist.
Whether you have a mental health care plan or prefer to use private health insurance, we are here to support you on your journey to better mental well-being. If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please contact Jess at 0405 983109. We look forward to helping you edit out what isn't working and make space for new insights and approaches to help you heal, energize, and develop your individual strengths.

"Unfortunately my experience with psychologist, Elizabeth Blackwood did not end up being positive in nature. I began seeing Elizabeth after she was recommended to me by a former colleague. After checking her website and seeing the options listed for treating anxiety, along with trauma, I made an appointment. Initially, things went positively, however at around the 6th or 7th session mark, I tried to alert Elizabeth to the fact I was experiencing an exacerbation of symptoms. I asked for strategies to be discussed in my next session. I also asked Elizabeth as to whether she felt she was able to keep working with me, or if I needed to see someone else. Rather than answer my question, I was informed I was ‘disrespecting’ boundaries by emailing her between sessions, even though I had done so previously without issue. This resulted in total confusion from my end, as I did not understand why the ‘goal posts’ suddenly seemed to have shifted, along with what seemed to be a complete change in energy from Elizabeth. I was also told by Elizabeth that she felt I was trying to ‘seek soothing’ from her, (which seemed to be a strange thing for a psychologist to say) even though I tried to explain again that I would appreciate discussing strategies in my next session. I then repeated my question as to whether Elizabeth felt able to continue with me. If she did not feel able, then I was more than willing to see someone else. Two days later, I received a blunt ‘termination email’ (a phone call would have been more professional in my opinion), essentially blaming me for not respecting her boundaries, even though, Elizabeth herself told me she had ‘gently inferred’ these same boundaries. I pointed out that it is impossible for people to comprehend and then ‘respect’ boundaries that are ‘gently inferred’!! I also stated I would have appreciated clearly stated boundaries from the very beginning. Instead, from the beginning, Elizabeth had engaged in text and email communication with me, with nothing mentioned about boundaries at all, even though I personally had asked questions via email regarding contact. A previous counsellor had engaged in this exact behaviour to which I had discussed with Elizabeth, who had no trouble pointing out to me that the previous counsellor had ‘misused her power’ with me. If a psychologist feels they do not possess the necessary skills to continue seeing a client, then I wish they would be honest, rather than taking the ‘easy road out’ by blaming the client. It is never okay to blame a client as this is a misuse of the natural power imbalance that exists between client and practitioner."
"Elizabeth is extremely professional and gives practical suggestions. I can't recommend her highly enough."
"A Life-Changing Experience with an Incredible Psychiatrist I first discovered 'The Psych Edit' in Kenmore about 18 months ago, I was stuck in traffic, stuck in the thought loop and when I saw the sign I thought why not. I must say, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Dr. Liz is an outstanding psychiatrist with a rare combination of expertise, empathy, and genuine care for her patients. Her listening skills are remarkable, and she has the unique ability to help you make sense of your thoughts and emotions. Throughout our sessions, she has consistently demonstrated compassion and understanding, making me feel comfortable and supported every step of the way. Despite the recent negative review, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Liz to anyone needing to talk to someone. Her experience and compassion make her an exceptional professional in her field, and I am incredibly grateful for her positive impact on my mental health and overall well-being."
"Having followed Elizabeth from a previous practice to now her own, I cannot recommend her highly enough! Elizabeth has a very calming and kind personality which makes the sometimes daunting experience of finding a psychologist much easier. The Psych Edit has a beautiful space which is as equally calming!"
