Big Sandhills Moreton Island, Queensland 4025
About the Business
Welcome to Big Sandhills, a must-visit tourist attraction located in the beautiful city of Brisbane, Queensland, on Moreton Island. With its unique landscape and stunning natural beauty, Big Sandhills offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
One of the most remarkable features of Big Sandhills is the absence of vegetation, which allows for an awe-inspiring sight. The wind-sculpted dunes of Big Sandhills rise up to an impressive height of 60 meters above their base, creating a mesmerizing landscape that is unlike anything you have ever seen.
What sets Big Sandhills apart from other dunes on the island is its unstabilized nature. While the rest of Moreton Island's dunes are covered and supported by vegetation to prevent erosion, the Big Sandhills remain untouched, showcasing the raw beauty of nature in its purest form.
As you explore the area, you will discover the sandy flats below the Big Sandhills. Accessible only during low tide, these flats are home to a diverse ecosystem of sea grasses, worms, mollusks, and thousands of soldier crabs. Witness the area come alive with bustling marine life, providing a unique opportunity to connect with nature in a truly special way.
To reach the Little Sandhills, you can venture towards the eastern surf beach. However, the Big Sandhills are directly accessible from the western beach, making it convenient for visitors to immerse themselves in the breathtaking surroundings.
At Big Sandhills, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service and ensuring that your visit is a memorable one. If you have any questions or need assistance, our friendly staff are always available to help. Simply give us a call at 1300 652 250, and we will be more than happy to assist you.
Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply seeking a unique adventure, Big Sandhills is the perfect destination for you. Come and experience the untouched beauty of these magnificent sand dunes and create lasting memories in the heart of Australia's stunning Moreton Island.

"Amazing place to be. Feel like you are in desert. Hard to climb up the top but worthy looking down the magnificent views."
"Gorgeous views of Moreton Bay. Make sure the tide is low when visiting to avoid getting your vehicle stuck."
"Great spot for some energetic sand hill climbing with some stunning views from the top. The lone tree makes for some surreal photos surrounded by white sand and blue sky. Keep an eye out for painted rocks! Take a toboggan or boogie board and have some fun sand surfing on the way back. As others have stated just beware the go-slow zone from the 5m depth mark when coming in by boat. The beach is lovely to wander along and super safe for the kids to have a swim."
"Beautiful spot, just be prepared to use your muscles!"
"Best place on the whole island, surreal experience, so worth it"
