Stony Creek Day Use Area Bellthorpe, Queensland 4514
About the Business
Welcome to Stony Creek Day Use Area, located in Bellthorpe, Queensland in the beautiful Moreton Bay Region. As an establishment, park, and point of interest, Stony Creek offers a tranquil and picturesque setting for picnics and barbecues near a serene rock pool. The surrounding forest roads provide an opportunity for exploration in your high clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle.
If you prefer a more active experience, you can choose to walk, horse ride, or mountain-bike ride on the forest tracks, unless otherwise signed. However, it is essential to be well prepared and self-sufficient for these activities as mobile phone reception is limited in the area. Please note that camping is not permitted in Bellthorpe National Park, but there are nearby parks and forests, such as Imbil State Forest, Beerburrum State Forest, Conondale National Park, D'Aguilar National Park, and Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area, where you can enjoy coastal and forest camping.
When visiting Stony Creek, you'll have the opportunity to see the log handling Gantry, which was once used for loading milled timber onto transport trucks. Although it collapsed during a storm, it has been preserved and placed on a timber plinth for display. Another interesting historical feature is the crane pivot, which was used to drag timber to the frame saw in the main saw mill structure.
The highlight of Stony Creek is undoubtedly its stunning natural landscape. With open forests, rainforests, creek cascades, and rock pools, it is the perfect place to stop and enjoy a picnic. The day-use area offers amenities such as toilets, picnic tables, and wood barbecues. Remember to bring your own clean milled firewood, as collecting wood from the park is prohibited.
For those seeking adventure, Stony Creek also allows for horse-riding, mountain-bike touring, and bushwalking. Shared trails in the eastern section of the park are open for these activities, and pictograms placed on intersections provide guidance on difficulty levels and permitted uses. In the western section, designated horse trails are available. Special permits are generally not required unless it is a commercial activity or an organized event.
Exploring the park on forest roads is another exciting option. However, it's important to note that most roads within the park are dry weather only and require high clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. Drivers must be experienced in low range, low-speed forest road driving conditions, and all vehicles must be road registered and operated by a licensed rider/driver. Please check park alerts for any current closures or restrictions.

"Beautiful spot to sit and relax even have a cool swim."
"Nice to swim in when the rain has flushed fresh water through. Great picnic area with toilets. Although it is on a dirt road to visit a 4wd isn't necessary."
"Surrounded by an abundance of greenery, very peaceful. Great place for dip, feeling refreshed and lie on the grass after in the sun. Plenty of parking space. Recommend bring snacks"
"Stunning clear swimming hole for a dip. Crisp cold water yet very refreshing. Highly recommend packing a picnic plus an inflatable tube would be fun too. Drop Toilets at the car park and Entertaining tables and open bbq pits. Nov 2022"
"Great spot for a large gathering, picnics and refreshing swims! The main swimming hole is a short easy walk down hill from the carpark area, about 5 minutes. Good for large gatherings too. There is a disabled car park spot, please see photos. There is a ramp to the toilet block, and the toilets were clean and there was even hand soap. Very well maintained. For a challenging hike go up the creek climbing over the rocks to see gushing waterfalls and rockpools. Grippy shoes, snacks, spf and water is essential. We completed the full trip in 4 hours, including a long stop for the cold water swims. Very refreshing!"
