"Visited Mr Vain for a birthday dinner and was absolutely spoilt. The chefs menu was brilliant, subtle flavours that were well balanced and left so full, bursting at the seams. Added on the duck and oysters because why not. The duck was definitely the star of the night. Great drinks too, although the flavour balance in the cocktails were also subtle and didnt pack a punch so bare that in mind when ordering. Great service all the way through. Can’t comment on the vibe though, as we had an early mid week booking, so it was pretty quiet."
"My wife and another couple are making it our mission to try each of Brisbane's tasting menus/degustations. Mr. Vain was the latest in our travels. A number of the courses presented to us weren't to everyone's liking, but we all agreed that the culinary expertise that went into creating each plate was exceptional. The cheese course, in particular, was presented in a totally unique way - I won't say any more so as to preserve the surprise for anyone who tries it. Mr. Vain's probably won't top the list for our favourite degustation, but it is undoubtedly a superb dining experience that will challenge and delight your taste buds."
"There is quite a bit to say here, and perhaps this place has potential for me to love it. Unfortunately, our experience was not a positive one, and I felt embarrassed as this was meant to be a birthday dinner, a special treat for my partner. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were inviting. We had a very comfortable table and enjoyed lovely cocktails to start. We ordered oysters, bread, tuna, beef, duck, and eggplant. The tuna and oysters arrived, and the tuna was delightful. However, the bread didn't make an appearance. Then we waited for a long time. With several large group tables in the restaurant, we had the feeling that they couldn't cater to both us and those large groups. We felt forgotten. Without prompting, we did receive an apology and were told that our mains had been missed. We were comped a whiskey and the bread, but unfortunately, the extended wait ruined the evening. My partner had lost interest, and while the mains were okay, I think it was impossible for us to truly enjoy things from there. We had been left waiting for too long with no communication from the wait staff, and we just felt unimportant compared to the large table groups. We decided to leave without ordering dessert, something we had been looking forward to at the start of the evening. It's a real shame because I believe this venue has the potential to be right up there with the best Brisbane has to offer."
"Absolute vibes. Went during their Thursday night where they played jazz tunes. Food was delicious and the staff there were nice and approachable. Would come here for a special occasion and the price was pretty reasonable. Would definitely want to come back here again in the future."
"Came on a Friday night, and it was unexpectedly quiet. Very chilled vibe. We didn't feel rushed through courses. Highly recommend the flank steak and the cabbage. Everything was perfectly balanced. The staff were very accommodating with allergies. Really wanted to try the vegemite dessert but chickened out and settled on the dark chocolate, which was delicious, especially if you enjoy slightly salty dessert."
