About the Business
Welcome to Sushi Square, located at Defries Avenue in Zetland, Australia. As an establishment and food point of interest, we pride ourselves on offering a unique and authentic sushi experience. Before diving into our mouthwatering dishes, it's important to have a fundamental understanding of what sushi truly is.
Sushi originated in Japan and is considered a highly creative and skillful cuisine. It consists of raw and cooked fish, along with veggies and rice seasoned with vinegar. Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger are the typical condiments served on the side. Over time, sushi has evolved from salty fish meals made with fermented rice to the modern sushi we know and love today.
At Sushi Square, we offer both traditional Japanese sushi and sushi prepared in the Western way, allowing you to discover your personal preference. Our menu features a variety of sushi options, including six different kinds that are commonly found in sushi restaurants.
One of the most popular dishes ordered at sushi restaurants is sashimi. Sashimi consists of raw fish cut into long, rectangular slices, served with wasabi, soy sauce, and pickled ginger. It can be seen as a disassembled version of traditional sushi rolls.
Nigiri is another type of sushi that consists of seasoned rice topped with thin slices of raw fish. It is meant to be eaten with your hands, allowing you to fully experience the range of flavors the fish has to offer.
Chirashi, meaning "scattered," is a dish similar to sashimi. It consists of seasoned rice topped with raw fish pieces and various toppings, providing a delightful element of surprise chosen by our skilled chefs.
Maki is a rolled sushi, sliced into bite-sized pieces, with fillings wrapped in seasoned rice and nori on the outside. Whether it's vegetables, seafood, or meat, our maki rolls offer a variety of delicious options.
Uramaki is similar to maki, but with the rice placed on the outside of the nori. This type of sushi often comes with a variety of toppings and sauces, allowing you to dip each piece for added flavor.
Temaki, also known as hand rolls, are sushi rolls where the nori is rolled into a cone shape. Packed with rice, veggies, and fish, temaki is typically eaten with your hands due to its size.
At Sushi Square, we aim to provide an unforgettable sushi experience, offering a blend of traditional and modern sushi preparations. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or a first-time sushi eater, our diverse menu and skilled chefs are ready to delight your taste buds. Visit us at Defries Avenue, Zetland, and embark on a culinary journey through the art of sushi.

"My wife picked up some salmon nigiri here for lunch last Friday and said one of the pieces tasted off. She didn’t think too much of it at the time but that night she had severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Since then, she’s been to the emergency department twice and is still suffering from severe stomach cramps six days later. That nigiri was the only thing my wife ate that the rest of the family didn’t eat, and the rest of the family are fine, so the nigiri is most likely the culprit. Needless to say, we will not be back here."
"Best sushi I have ever had. Always a nice welcome from a lady who works here during the day (lunchtime) from Mon-Fri. Highly recommended!"
"Rolls are only half full.Great at the top but virtually empty underneath."
"The salmon sushi was okay but chewy and not worth coming back, the avocado mini rolls were alright tho.. The staff seemed annoyed while serving me the two times I've gone there. The prices are a bit high compared to other "fast sushi" places so I won't be going there again unless I'm really desperate for sushi. I will try to find better options in the area."
"Tried three kinds of sushi and they were not tasty at all. Teriyaki Beef Rice was rather a good choice and tasted delicious. Went back for it twice. Wonder why there's no vegetable served with it for sake of nutrition."
