"Had a bad experience here this week on my first stay. The first issues is the beds are so soft that I wondered if it was actually a mattress underneath (cannot confirm). They are quite old too which is evident as the mattress frame is rigid and the middle sinks by over 40cm below that line. I woke up after my first night with chronic pain flaring in my neck as a result of sleeping on the bed. The walls are paper thin and heard children running and laughing and screaming up and down the halls until 11pm on both nights, plus every time anyone in the building has a shower it is very loud in the pipes. On the second night the hallway fire alarms went off at 4am and stayed on for nearly half an hour. Upon check out the receptionist didn’t even mention it and when I asked what happened this morning she looked puzzled and asked what I meant. When I clarified she disclosed that it has been happening repeatedly at that time of day and she couldn’t answer why. I explained that this is most likely a moisture issue and reflects that the alarms need to be updated. I was offered no full or even partial refund even though this was an issue they knew about prior to the incident and had made no disclosures and the price point of the stay certainly did not reflect the condition of the building or the type of stay they are providing. For the money it’s cheaper to stay at the Metropole which has the same noise issues but much more polite and accomodating and pricing that essentially reflects the service being provided. This business seems exploitational and entitled in its operation and it’s an awful feeling to have spent a third of my weekly income on 2 nights accomodation and to have received that treatment. Shows on the owners behalf a type of sociopathy in my opinion."
"The lady on reception was lovely and super helpful. Room was spacious with a nice king bed, that was very comfortable. Very convenient location too."
"The old quirky look is ok, nice even. The fact that desk and bar close at 6pm (in reality earlier) is also ok to work around. The room and bathroom were small but ok. The slice of pizza in the fridge from the previous guests was not a nice find. The breakfast was incredibly low effort and a bit sad, frankly, for the price of the room. All in all, mixed feelings about it."
"The room here is pretty big. The bed is extremely bouncy and comfortable but the bathroom is very small. The toilet seat is not fixed and it moves. The hotel don’t have teeth brush, toothpaste and slipper. The hotel looks old which looks very cozy especially the fireplace. There is a bar but I didn’t try it. The main entrance close after 6:00 pm which is quite inconvenient for me to go out and eat dinner. The design is not friendly to old people. There is no elevator but only stairs which is so inconvenient for my grandma. Overall it’s a pretty good 3 star hotel."
"Rooms are spacious and very comfortable and clean. The doors can be a little cranky but that's it. They are a little bit understaffed but service is good. Breakfast is a simple one with not too many options but still enjoyable. Overall a very neat place and value for money. Better than some 5 star hotels I visited. Will definitely stay again."
