"If you're looking for a fine sturdy Irish dinner you'll get it at the Merry Monk. Typical Irish pub dinners with a decent selection. No frills. If you're looking for more haute cuisine; go down the road to Belleek Castle."
"Ate here over the weekend, the restaurant wasnt busy. !!EVERY STAFF MEMBER!! Ignored the table & went up to the bar to ask if anyone could look after the table, never offered menus as it was after 4pm. Waited 30mins for menu. 2lads that looked after the table had an attitude and dumped cutlery on the table . Told us starters and mains all had to come together as they hadn't time to come to the table after taking orders?????? Sorry, but this is the worst experience with a restaurant ever, even the way we were spoke to. Young lad tried his best but just had the head for it. Possibly understaffed on a bank hol weekend! Overall, food was spot on. Service is a disgrace!"
"We had dinner and lunch in The Merry Monk over the Easter weekend and it has to rate as among the best food we ever had , service was very good also and the place was spotless. There was also very nice music on the Sunday evening also .. We will definitely be back when we are in Mayo again ."
"Popped in for lunch and had a tasty and well priced carvery! Friendly and helpful staff. Would happily go back"
"Restaurant comments only. Acceptable to locals, but anyone who has moderate to higher standards would do better to go elsewhere. Its a bit like being at a mates house for dinner, but not in a good way. The service standards just aren't there, I see it often in the west of Ireland, you could be kind & call it relaxed, but it's really no idea of what is correct service. The fault lays entirely with the owner, as there has obviously been no proper training, everything is just made up as they go along. This will come from having no hospitality training himself. So many people think they can run, cafes & restaurants without training & they can, but only a few will triumph. Finally, the food was edible, but I would never return, there are so many better places. I wish them luck, but root & branch change is required."
