Located in the heart of County Cork, Closed at Present is an establishment like no other. As a lodging option, it offers visitors a unique experience, with its rustic charm and tranquil surroundings. However, it is more than just a place to stay - it is a point of interest, a destination in itself.
Closed at Present boasts a rich history, dating back to the early 1900s. Originally built as a dance hall, it has since been renovated into a charming and cozy lodge that is perfect for an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The building features traditional Irish architecture, with its pitched roof, stone walls, and wooden shutters, making it a picturesque sight against the backdrop of the rolling hills of Glengarriff.
Despite its rustic exterior, Closed at Present offers all of the modern amenities that visitors would expect, including free Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and comfortable beds. Each room is uniquely decorated, with a personality and charm all its own. Guests are also treated to a hearty breakfast each morning, with delicious options such as homemade scones, fresh fruit, and local bacon and eggs.
Beyond its rustic charm and modern amenities, what sets Closed at Present apart is the natural beauty that surrounds it. The lodge is situated in the heart of Glengarriff, a picturesque village nestled between the Caha Mountains and Bantry Bay. Visitors can explore the village on foot, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside, or venture further afield and discover the many hiking trails and outdoor activities that the area has to offer.
Unfortunately, Closed at Present is currently closed due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we hope to reopen soon and welcome visitors back to experience the magic of this hidden gem. In the meantime, please stay tuned for updates on our website and social media channels.

"I haven't visited the Blue Pool Hostel yet, but what I can say is that the management is super nice and helpful. I've been in contact with them via email and they really seem to care not only about their guests, but also about other inquiries. In fact, they're my hero! And I'm super thankful that they've helped me out. Your biggest fan, Kevin."
"Clean rooms, friendly staff, and fabulous kitchen facilities. The only downside was something I’d usually consider a positive, but I was feeling exceptionally tired and unsociable and one staff member wouldn’t give me the chance to just be quiet and alone. As I said, I’d usually love that, but I did feel uncomfortable."
"By far my favorite hostel and favorite town in the whole of Ireland. Central to the most beautiful hikes and drives in SW of Ireland, but that's not even the best part. Siobhan and Mike are the genuine BEST hosts on the hemisphere (I only say that to avoid offending my own mother, here in the U.S.). They are the kindest and most authentic hostel owners, providing an environment as welcoming and cozy as your own home (I suppose I should also mention that it's the cheap, convenient, and the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed at!). Between the crackling fireplace and the incredible view of the back porch, I would have stayed here for my whole trip if I could have. It's like a vacation from vacation!"
"Budget hostel. Nice kitchen. Warm and cozy common room. Bedrooms below average. Very basic. Plenty of shared bathrooms. Bring your own shower gel and shampoo. Not provided here. Host is very friendly and nice. Enjoyed our stay."
"Awesome hostel with lovely and very helpful owners who make you feel home and very welcome. Loved the common kitchen and sitting next to the open fireplace for the evening to have a long chat. The owners know the area very well and can recommend a lot of things. Thanks to them I visited Garinish Island and followed the long and winding road to Priest Leap, unforgettable experience even in rain and mist. The hostel is right in the city centre with free parking on street."
