"The manager nigel was rude to my partner on the phone then to me when I called up. We were trying to get a part of a sofa and he said he was certain you couldn't get. I rang customer services who said he was wrong and that we could get it. I rang up to order it and he still said it didn't exist. I rang customer services back and they ordered it for me. Had to chase them about five times to get any sort of update."
"Poor company, great communication by salesman but very poor processes and structure post sale. Purchased two sofas based on delivery date offered, waited all day for delivery and after two phone calls was told there was an issue. Called back in morning and booked for following Friday, another day off work - was told two days before that they have stock issues and now is a 6 week wait. Could have gone with other choice on day and received another product in better time. Subsequently cancelled order and asked for deposit back - the poor reviews are not isolated and smells of poor stock control and perhaps cashflow issues as reviews have got much worse recently on same issues - be careful if using this store, I would suggest. Not great at all, but v good communication from particular salesman on floor."
"Not even worthy of one star!! waited 15 weeks for a sofa which got lost, waited another 6 weeks for an answer and then told to wait another 18 weeks for a re-order and they would only offer an incentive to do that on delivery! ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS!!"
"The staff in the Waterlooville branch were very helpful, and intially the purchase appeared simple, but in the end they proved themselves to be helpless. We have tried for months to arrange to have our table delivered, and there has been just excuse after excuse as to why this has not been possible. As they worded it, our table is essentially being held hostage by the delivery company Mark Webster. Mark Webster are virtually impossible to contact (numerous voicemails left requesting a call back, and only call back when you are unable to answer). I did not find the staff rude, they are very pleasant, but they have an extremely defeatist attittude. When faced with a problem they prefer to lie on their backs and hope someone else will solve it. I fear the table will be delivered in a terrible state and we will have a nightmare of a time getting any issue resolved considering it has been this difficult to have a table delivered."
"Beware your guarantee is probably not what you think it is. Did you know that if something goes wrong with your purchase after 1 year you will have to get an independent report to prove it is a manufacturers report before Harveys will enter into any negotiation about whether to repair or replace it? I purchased a 2 seater and 3 seater electric reclining settee in April 2015 at a cost of £2407.00. The two seater has broken after only 20 months. The arm or the sofa has broken away from the base. I have telephoned customer services (CS) and was told that as it was over a year old, I had to get an independent report to verify that it was a manufacturers fault before they would repair it. I have to do this at my own inconvenience and cost. I was quoted the law by the CS adviser which he says states that when a product is over 6 months old, the onus is on the customer to prove that the fault is a manufacturers fault. I advised him that the sofa is sat here ready for them to inspect, I clearly cannot take it to them and I have taken photos of it. However, I was just abruptly advised again that I needed to get a report. How is this good customer service? Their customer charter states that "We will always put our customers needs first". Really? The CS adviser was in no way apologetic for the fact that I have a sofa that cannot be used but I am still paying for because I was talked into taking out the interest free credit in store. He didn't give a dam. I advised him that I have a one year old granddaughter living with me who is walking around the furniture and if the arm collapses completely and falls on her, it could cause her considerable harm. This made no difference whatsoever. I asked him if the calls were recorded which they were so I asked him to confirm that he was refusing to send someone out to look at my sofa to repair it. He said he would not confirm yes or no, it was not that simple. I also said the company advertise a 10 year guarantee he informed me that they will guarantee to repair it but if it is over 6 months old the law states that the onus is on the buyer to prove manufacturers fault. This is so misleading the customer. If you have a guarantee for a period of time you do not expect to have to pay for an independent report if something goes wrong with it. He then informed me that I did not have a 10 year guarantee only a 1 year and that is up so I have to get an independent report done. I said that if I had known this at the point of sale, I would not have bought it. At which point I was told by the CS advisor that I am bound by their policies and procedures and if I don't like it, complain to the ombudsman and he gave me their telephone number. He said we were just going round and round in circles and there was nothing he could do without a report. He refused to put me through to his supervisor. I cannot believe that this is how Harvey's treat their customers. Ok if the sofa was 6 years old, there may be some argument that a report is needed but after 20 months? The way I have been treated by Harveys is disgusting. Following the phone call I am not only furious because I thought your company valued their customers, their reputation and would treat their customers decently, but obviously not. I am left in a situation where I cannot afford to get a report done at the current time and so I am stuck with a broken sofa that I cannot use but I am still paying for and could pose a potential risk to my grandaughter. I find this totally unreasonable and unfair. A reasonable person would expect a sofa is to last for years. It is obviously not fit for purpose nor is it of satisfactory standard and quality. I now realise why I shop at John Lewis wherever possible."
