"Excellent service provided. Myself and my partner age 29 & 30 first began our mortgage journey in November 2021 with GMC and were recommended Mags Gardiner by a friend. As first time buyers we were very unsure about the entire mortgage process but Mags broke down the whole process and all necessary steps & documentation required right from the start. "When setting out on our house buying journey, we decided to go through a broker to ease the application process and hopefully get the best rate/option possible for our circumstances. We opted to go with GMC mortgages because they had good reviews online and were near where we were living at the time, in Drumcondra. In fact, in the end as it was possible to do everything via video calls or over the phone. So I don’t think the location needs to be a factor in your decision making. We first had an initial fact-finding call with our broker, Mags Gardiner. This helped us understand what to expect and what was possible, as well as assist Mags in understanding our needs. It was a comprehensive call which started us all out on the right footing. The next step was to provide our documentation to GMC to allow Mags make applications to lenders on our behalf. For this, GMC have a very well laid out online platform. It’s secure, easy to get yourself set up to use and easy to understand. The platform shows clearly what documents you need to provide, which documents are still outstanding and which require amendment/updating. Mags then did any initial reviews of the documents to check if they were appropriate rather than sending to a bank and waiting weeks for a response. It worked really well and definitely saved time compared to trying to prepare this for a bank yourself. After that, Mags then presented us with a range of options and, after discussing our circumstances, we decided to go for particular lenders. Our applications were made by Mags on our behalf and we received approvals in principle quickly. This allowed us to then start actively looking for a home. At that point, it was ultimately down to us to view places and (eventually) agree a sale. During this time (which took quite a while) Mags regularly stayed in touch to keep up to date on our situation and always made herself available to answer any questions. Searching for a home is a draining and difficult experience – particularly given how stacked the odds are against buyers at the moment. Throughout all of this, Mags was genuinely engaged in our search and genuinely interested in a good outcome for us. There were times when it felt like it was difficult to trust agents and others involved but Mags always felt like our only ally throughout the process. She always made time for us and helped with clarifying aspects of the process that we didn’t understand. She made the whole process much easier than it would have been had we done it alone.
