"Act Up is more than just an acting class. Its a little community of fun, welcoming, half mad, talented people from all walks of life. I'd consider myself more of an introvert and acting would never have been something I would have considered, only a friend suggested it and so I found myself there on the first night, pretty freaked out about what I was getting myself into. From the very start it was the most welcoming supportive atmosphere. Shane, our fearless leader, has a unique talent for putting people at ease, inspiring creativity and most of all making it fun. My face often hurts from laughing after leaving class. Since joining Act Up (almost 3 years ago now I think!) I've done several plays and improvisation shows, something I NEVER thought I could or would do and I can honest say being part of Act Up has made me braver, more open to new experiences and people and most of all brought me a lot of joy. If acting isn't something you think is for you, try it anyway. The skills you get are transferrable to so many facets of work and life. At the very least, you'll get a chance to shake off the weekly routine, meet an eclectic bunch of wonderful people and laugh for about 2 hours each week. Hard to argue with that!"

"I can only give the highest of praise to act up and the one man driving force behind it Shane Nestor. I was never really interested in acting before I met Shane. In fact the whole idea of performing in front of others would have been a complete turn off. Sport and playing football is where my interests really lay. I only joined the act up group as I knew Shane through football connections. It was a 6 week course and I thought I'd go to it just for a new experience as at the time injury curtailed my sporting pursuits. From day one and throughout Shane has proved to be an excellent faciltator. He has away of making people feel at ease. Through the use of lots of games you have so much fun and gradually, before you even realise you're performing in front of others. All your inhibitions and self consciousness gradually disappear. I found that Shane has a great way of pitching each class to the right level of the participants. To cut along story short, it has been a few years ago now since I first started with Act Up. I had only intended in doing the first 6 weeks! I kept coming back and have made great friendships along the way. The buzz I had in playing football and sport has now been replaced by similar enjoyment in acting. It has been a life affirming and life changing turn in my life and would highly recommend the Act Up experience to anyone.....even if just for a 6 week taster!"
